Buzzing sound from engine (video included)

anyone know what is causing it? I don't remember hearing it before, I barely hear it in the cabin, but outside the car you can hear it even with the hood closed.

The occasional rumbling in the background is from a thunderstorm we are having right now. It's real clear to hear to the buzzing around 19 seconds on, if you want to save sometime and fast foward to there. The A/C was off and the engine was well warmed up from a 15 min trip I took earlier.

I might see if I can get a more crisp sounding video tomorrow, hopefully there won't be any thunderstorms popping up out of the blue.

Alright update: engine cold...no buzzing noise even after a few mid range revs, take it for a mild mile drive around, when I get to my house I hear a slight buzzing (same sound as before) coming from the engine bay. I open the engine and I hear it again. The sound appears to be coming from near the half of the engine located next to the firewall. I think I might just be hearing nothing abnormal at all, but I figured I'd check with the experts to be sure.

Video #2 (no thunderstorm)...don't have your sound on too loud

Thats good to hear. I didn't see your post earlier. I think I'm just getting paranoid because this hasn't been a good month for the CL, I just got two unrepairable flat rear tires yesterday, broken passenger axle a few weeks ago, and just got my first ticket two weeks ago.

Atleast I've gotten 26+mpg on my last few tanks.

Talking ticker

That ticker is normal on every TL or CL. I had mine check at Acura Dealer. They show me where that sound coming from. Sometime you hear it and some other time don't. IT is the little black box, about the size of a match box below your sway bar. It tick when it turn on.

That's the purge valve & a normal one should NOT tick. They will tick, but it's 1 of those items that by design should not make noise, but do.

However that's not the noise the OP is hearing.

I do hear the noise, but it seems normal to me. You have any mods? Are all your bolts tight? How's the drive belt?

I just noticed my purge valve ticking. I guess I need to replace it, but I'm not sure what it affects... It's not like I've noticed my gas mileage decreasing, it's just an annoyance when I've got the windows down at idle (and then I can barely hear it).

I have CT icebox, CT headers, and the UR ud crank pulley. The belts look almost brand new and like they were on tight. They didn't make any noise.

that's just the vtec getting ready to rumble!
haha

So the overall verdict is that it's a normal sound? I guess I am extra paranoid this month lol.

I don't hear mine at all from the pulley section, I hear it closer to the drivers side behind where the throttle body is towards the strut tower bar. I mean the car seems to be running great, smooth and getting great gas mileage.

Does the buzz you are talking about sound dremel drilling through wood? If I am hearing that right, that is definitely not right.

I'd have to say that it sounds like a buzz, kind of like an airplane turbine sound. Dremel drilling through wood? eh as in the words of Borat 'not so much'

What are you thinking about, if its something easy to check I can always take a look for S&G?

That sound in the video appeared to get louder when you went to the passenger side. Does it change at all if you were to turn the wheel a little? Mine made a sound like that and it was the PS pump. Either way that sound isnt normal.

The wheels were slightly turned in both videos. In person it seems to sounds louder on the driver side, but it is possible that it could be louder on the passenger side, I listen more carefully. I can find out if its the PS pump when I take it out today and warm it up. It doesn't make any sound when the car is cold.

Any other things I should check for? I am cleaning out my icebox filter today so while I'm in there I might as well.

Kind of off-topic, but, props for your Auto to 6 speed DIY thread in 2nd gen TL. I wish I had the know how to do that.

Update: no more buzzing sound

The video makes my voice sound a little off.

I haven't driven the car for three days because I have been using the TL instead and I haven't had the time until today to take a look at it.

Only changes in the vehicle since last video: cleaned and oiled air filter (which wasn't that dirty) and washed the car.

I drove it today for a date and when I got back I popped the hood and didn't hear any loud buzzing sound or anything. It was Acura quiet as it should be .

I had my brother and tootsie (the dog) come outside to help me out. My brother got in the car and turned the wheel all the way right and all the way left (as in the video) and I didn't hear a PS pump noise or any noise period. So that still leaves me puzzled on what that sound was. I'm going to check it after I go to the gym tomorrow.

Any good guesses?

I just checked the engine now and it wasn't making that noise. I revved it up slowly three times up to 2,500 RPMS and it started making the buzzing sound again.

Thanks,

So now its back after reving it up? Its kinda hard to tell in the video where its coming from. Have you tried driving it to see if the car acts differently? I cant think of any thing that would be causing that noise. Ive heard relays sound like that when bad and there is a small black relay box on the drivers side. If you get your head in there while its doing it can you try to pinpoint the area better??

I drove it and it seems to be driving fine. I just got 25.8 MPG when I filled up tonight, which is about what I usually get. Every video has been after the car has been driven about 15 miles.

I'll stick my head in there and check tomorrow. I'll take a picture of the area I think it is.
Thanks!

The sound sounds slightly louder on the passenger side as you stated earlier. The noise is coming from the firewall side of the engine and it appears (not certain though!) to be comming from somewhere under the IMRC. The IMRC is working.
