Buying a used CL-S, have one big concern (not tranny related)

I'm looking into purchasing a used CL-S, but I have one major concern: Cheapskates who used regular gas on the car for the entire time. Is there a way I can tell? And how many miles would it take of regular gas use to put a hurt on the engine?

You shouldn't have to worry on that since the ecu with adjust the timing to eliminate any pinging if it occurs.

There shouldn't be any damage on the engine if they used regular gasoline since ecu adjusts the timing. Secondly you do lose performance if you happen to use lower octane.

how big of a drop in performance would you see if you used 89 octane? and by performance you mean acceleration right?

Nothing but Mobil premium ever went in my tank.
And it’s for sale too.

You should be OK. But I would test drive a couple other CL-s and see if you can tell the difference. Chances are that there is no real damage to the engine from using regular.

You should buy Shawn's car instead.

i have a company gas card and they will only pay for regular gas. i cant tell any noticeable difference in performance nor has it hurt the engine using 87 octane.

I use Shell V-Power 93 octane. It is on the TopTier gas list...supported by Honda. It may be a lot of marketing hype, but I think it works good!

It is in the manual that you can use lower than premium octane gas, with reduced performance. I am sure it will not damage the car in anyway, but it just wont feel as nice as when u get a fresh tank of shell v-power!
