Buying a CL-S; Can I get your opinion?
I've been looking to buy a CL-S since I found this site. I've come to realize that financing a BMW (big payment) with no warranty is a big waste of money.
I found a 2003 Acura 3.2 CL Type S Non-Nav that I'm interested in. It has 15k miles and is selling for 18k. I called the dealer today and he explained to me how his operation works. He buys cars from insurance companies. So this particular car was stolen for more than 30 days so the owner received the payoff on it. He says nothing was damaged other than the housing for one of the speakers which has since been replaced.
I'm hesitant to buy a car without a warranty again but the low mileage and price is tempting. This guy offers a 60 day warranty on the car.
I'd like to ask if this car would still be under the original manufacturer's warranty. It should be, right? I don't even know what the original warranty would be; I've never owned an Acura before. What are my options?
Do you think it's a good deal? Do you recommend I go for it or keep looking around?
All thoughts and criticism are appreciated. I just don't want to screw myself (again). I really want a CL and I can't wait to get one. Thanks guys.

I can understand why you would be concerned, and rightfully so. I just bought an 01 CL-S last week and I absolutely love it. Honda products are known to be dependable and solid. The only problems these cars have had are with the tranny on the 5AT, and that is covered by Acura for 7 years or 100,000 from date of original purchase. If you're still unsure take it to a mechanic and have him look it over before you buy. If the dealer is a solid dude he shouldn't have a problem with that.

First of all, Acura covers the car for 50K miles, which should still be valid. And assuming everything is in good shape, 18K for an 03 is a good deal too.
Lke Blacura said the only worry is if you're going with the 5AT tranny, some have had some problems (I've never had any though). Even if you're getting the 6MT, I'd still get the car checked out before I buy. If all goes well, I say do it!
Enjoy the car, and in case you stick around..... Welcome let the modding begin

CLS 6MT Navi
I assume buying an Acura in Puerto Rico is the same as in the US as far as warranty goes? Are there Acura dealers in PR? I'd take it there for a buyer's inspection ($75).
A Carfax report might provide more info about the 'theft/insurance' history. I'd have a LOT of questions on this car at that mileage/price. Pretty cheap.
PS- If you're getting an 03, I'd get the 6 speed version and don't worry about any tranny issues.

I'd try to verify the car never got flooded. If it got put under water (storms etc), the electrics connections will keep corroding and fuc_in up everything forever(wiring harness, computer everything), - it ain't fixable.
Good luck!

Its an Awesome car and you will be pleased with it! I'm completely happy with mine...besides the few squeaks I had, but I got them fixed. Search the Stickies and you can find all the problems we have had with our CLs

Make sure the seller will provide a CLEAN TITLE; not a salvage title. A salvage title voids the warranty. I would also run the VIN with Acura to make the the warranty is still valid.

hmm, sounds like they are theft recoveries, in which case it is a salvage title. If this is the case, I would steer FAR away from them. In any other car, it may not be such a bad idea. But, with this one, the tranny is prone to go at any time, and possibly numerous times at that. A salvaged car is not covered by the recall, and you would have to pay out of pocket for that...g luck with whatever you do.
PS-- rb351 i believe was selling an 03 with 20k miles for about 20K. and it was a 6sp with navi...

Thanks for the replys. It's a 6MT so I guess I won't have to worry about the tranny.
He says the car is perfect except it got stolen; the only damage was the plastic part on the door where the speakers are. They tried to steal the speaker but gave up for a while.
I'll find out for sure if its a salvage title.
I'll see what I can find on rb351's car, the problem is I have a trade in which I'd have to sell first.

OK, what the hell just happened. 3 years of Spanish, and I can't remember a word.
I would be a bit concerned about getting a car with a "salvage" title. For a couple grand more, you can get one that will bve covered under warrenty.
Good luck.
