Buy Experience
Buy Experience
First, this is in response for dodwolf's inquiry about my CL-S buying experience.
On June 13, 2000 I went to Acura Herb Conolley in Fremingham, MA. This dealer claims his Aucra #1 in US. I went and found myself dealing with rep that wont go below MSRP. At that time the car was barely 2-3 months on the market, you would have hard time to negotiate anything below MSRP
Anyways, I selected the following accessories, in addtion to my CL-S with NAV:
3M clear bra (full front bumper, and side mirros), wheels locks, mooonroof visors, splash guards, winter mats, trunk tray, and spoiler.
I accpeted a bargained deal of $33,400. no sales tax for NH. Paid $3,400 down, financed the 30,000 for 8,99% for 36 months. This month I just paid off a $12,000 from the Honda Finance loan
However, the catch is that the $1,400 in accessories IS the ACURA MSRP price. So, what the dealer did is to jack up the price of the accessories and then decieve you that his given you a nice discount where in reality his selling at MSRP prices!!!! Later, I also discovered that those options you could install your self like mats and trunk trays could be bought at high discount from the web.
I get it up to the VP of sales and he told that this practice is common amnong ACURA dealers, What a BS?
Since I loved the car so much... I just wanted to get to enjoy my CLS and forget about it....
Sunnyside Acura here in Nashua is my Service dealer, they are nice in general. Ask for Tom if you want to get service there. A free loaner and handwash is granted with each scheduled service. In Stock Parts could be a problem. There prices are not that competetive. They have internet specials too...
If you would like to buy, I am willing to go with you or alone to negotiate on your behalf, as I know most of their sales reps deals can be done. You set a limit on what you want to pay for the options you want and you would start from the Invoice Price.

Thank you very much for sharing your buy experience. Those are great informations. But I do have several questions after reading your post,
1. Why did you go to MA to buy the car but not at NH?
2. How could you have the dealer in Nashua as your Service dealer if you buy the car in MA?
3. If you buy the car in MA how could not you pay for the tax?
4. I have gone to Sunnyside Acura once, but I only get $31800 for the CL-S/Navi and Spoiler, Which I believe is too high. What do you think?
5. Have you heard about North Hampton Acura? How about them?
6. Is there any other Acura dealers in NH?
7. By the way if after two or three years I moved to MA, do I have to pay the tax again when I registe my car in MA? ---This one is just a BTW question.
Thanks a lot.

At that time I was living in Woburn, MA, Moved to Nashua in Mid may. I was persuaded to to Fremingham because of "Acura delaer #1 in US" claim.
2. How could you have the dealer in Nashua as your Service dealer if you buy the car in MA?
You can have *ANY* Acura dealer as your service provider regardless where u bought your CLS.
3. If you buy the car in MA how could not you pay for the tax?
You pay TAX where you register and I registered mine, in Nashua where there is no Sales Tax, ( I have been told they call in MASS "car usage tax".
4. I have gone to Sunnyside Acura once, but I only get $31800 for the CL-S/Navi and Spoiler, Which I believe is too high. What do you think?
You need to bargain hard and firm. Also, you could say "This is my counter offer, take it (deposit) or leave it (car on the lot)". Ask to talk to Sales Manager, too.
5. Have you heard about North Hampton Acura? How about them?
This the only second Acura in NH. Never been there. no comment.
6. Is there any other Acura dealers in NH?
Not to my knowledge.
7. By the way if after two or three years I moved to MA, do I have to pay the tax again when I registe my car in MA? ---This one is just a BTW question.
Do not know. I guess if thre is no sale, then I guess you would pay registratin fees. You are not selling the car to your self are you ?
Thanks a lot.
No problem.

Thanks a lot for your great information, here comes another two questions,
1. To your experience if you buy a car in dealer A and to it to be serviced in dealer B do you got a different service level as the people who directly buy their car from dealer B?
2. What do you think would be a good price at this time for CL-S w/Navi, spoiler, wood trim, car cover, wheel lock and burlwood shift knob? What do you think about driving CL-P in our area where there is a lot of snows?
Again, thank you for all your help!

dodowolf,
1. Not so with Sunnyside. They gained 1 more new client that is more willing to spend warrantee work (paid by Acura) and regualr service at their dealership. Good service would most like keep the new customer (me) happy and come back for a new car, other services, or be a "free salesman" by refering you to their dealership. Clear?
One thing I missed I guess is that the Sales rep who sold me the car verbally promised 5 oil change free of charge. Valued at $100-$150. Most prbably I will never use his promise
2. CLS + NAVI: At this time, it should be Invoice Price + $500 or $30,500 (to 31,00 MAX). Get the price for the Spoiler, wood trim, car cover, wheel lock and burlwood shift knob from www.ahmotor.com and add that to the price. Go to dealer with total price and never pay a cent more.
I guess $31.5k should be reasonable.

yeah, same here... dealers tend to give you a low car price, and give you the so-called optional accessories which are really not optional with super high price, and at the end, you end up pay whatever the dealers want you to pay.
ok, I got a $28100 quote for my non-nav types, but the dealer added alarm/security system and lojack, which jacked the price to 29000 not including freight, tax and license... and during negotiation, he told me the alarm was a factory upgrade, but when i went to pick up the car few days later, he said it was a security system (he never mentioned alarm ever again!) which immorbilize the car blah blah which i later found out was standard on our cls. so basically i paid what the dealer wanted... well, my lesson? be firm about how much i want to pay, not the quote, we all know msrp/invoice/quote all just a bs game, but the final price.
again, i just loved the car, and wanted to enjoy it, so really didn't go back to argue with the dealer... again, i bet dealers know us buyers' mentality, and take advantage of us...
just piece of my mind.
