memories of the Thunderbird SC. Let's just say, they ARE NOT bang for the buck. A stock TL-S should have no problem with one that has a pulley, headers, and catback. Just make sure it's 1320, cause they should get you from the line.

stock t bird SC, are about mid 15s @ 92 for early models and about 15 flat at 95 for the later ones. (94-5). With the usual complement of mods (pully, exhaust, etc.) mods they hit mid 14s at upper 90s, enough to match a stock cl-s/tl-s. but many of them out there are tired at this point and won't exactly put up much of a fight.

that those cars weigh near 5000LBs, compared to your cars that wieght less tehn then half of that. And don;t be thinking these cars are tired either, just cause they are gettign old don;t mean nutta

Not well taken care of my a##!!
Bring those Acuras over to the club clash in Iowa-we'll show you what a "tired, not well taken care of" car can do!
And if you're ever down in St Louis during the SC Shootout, don't even bother racing those guys-several cars are in the 13s, and will chew up your pink slip and spit it back out.

Hell, I'd respect a 5000 lb. Rice-Grinder that made those numbers.

Pleae don't take me wrong. You guys are doing the same thing I did, you're just do'ing it with foreign cars. hp is hp. TQ is TQ. ET's are ET's, and if you you have the hp/TQ to make the numbers, then you're a worthy opponent!

the SC is a little heavier than the V8s. We had 3 of them
93 5.0 xr7
94 4.6 bird
97 4.6 sport bird.
The 94 and 97 were right about 3700 with about 1/2 tank of gas, heavy for sure, never weighed the cougar.
I didn't get too heavy into modding either one, cold air, maf, tb, u/d pullies and exhaust on the 97 made low 15s at 92 mph. had an addco sway setup and 245/50s on the 16 sport wheels.
was a very nice car but would need either the head swap or a blower to make it go well.
The SCs are a nicer car and have more in them, with pullies, exhaust. I know of a few personally that were low 14s, and that's about 5 years ago now.
The cl does what the t bird did and is a lot quieter, smoother and better put together, but of course you do have to pay for all that.
I'm sure there are quite a few out there that are well taken care of, but like the 5.0 stangs roaming around, many of them are surviving with well over 100k on them, a little out of tune, putting out just a puff of blue smoke and don't quite run up to their potential.

yea, i was that bored
Hey,
I'm part fo several SC clubs and infact own one of my own SC's. Alot of the ppl on our clubs picked these cars to go fast in style. They are very luxurious cars and quick cars for their year. Very quick and really nice. Off the line, because of the weight they will spin the tires but they catch up quick, and on the freeway, they're gone... anyways, just my $0.02 worth. I'll leave yea w/ sum pics

The SC were nice for the money, but I wouldnt call them luxurious. Maybe for the car segment that includes Grand Prix's and Taurus's, but once you move up a bit, no sir.
The SC brings back so many memories. Yanking out the 3.8 to have port/polish and stroker. My friend wasted his money on that biatch, though he had some amazing times with it. Full consmetic upgrades, body changes. (it helps that he owns/runs a body shop) That thing was a slouch though, never performed like it should have. Should have been an easy high 11 second car.

Yeah, i'm well versed on all those guys, at least I used to be. My buddy had lots of shit done to his car, he just had some big issues. So he finally got rid of it and bought himself a Navigator, put 23's on it, systems, TV, body modifications (again, bodyshop owner) and he's rolling I guess.
Talk about a change in venue!

Nice thread you guys got going on here.
The one thing that people overlook when it comes to the Thunderbird SC's is the handling. It handles very well for it's size and weight. Nobody talks about how one corners.

68 Cougar, yes I am a Buick guy(see my sig). I followed a thread a long ways back between Pontiac GTPs(my car's twin) and CLS'. I found a lot of really cool car guys here, and recently even went to the track with one (of course he was slower than me ).
Personally, I like SCs very much, but the car was just too heavy for me, and getting in/out of the rear seats was tough. I've only raced one guy on the street with a 10# pulley(at least thats what I thought he said). It wasn't very close, I suspect he needed some other mods to make it work right.

5000/2 = 2500 lbs.
A CL or TL does NOT weigh 2500 lbs.
But yes, the TL/CL is lighter than the SC bird.

The pulley you're talking about is a +10% pulley. On the '89 - '93 SC's, the supercharger is Over Driven 250%!!!!! The 10% pulley overdrives the blower 275%. The '94 - '95 Supercoupes have coated rotors that allow less blow back. They also have a +5% pulley, compared to the earlier blowers. A stock late model Supercoupe blower will make +15 psi at will!!!
How does that compare to the Buick M90's?
