burned valves because of overspeed

brought my 2003 cl-s6 in for service and they call me this morning to tell me that they are waiting for honda's approval to change the valves because I have burnt valves because of overspeed.

Now I'm waiting for their call but what is that overspeed exactly?

Revving the engine past the 7100 fuel cutoff. But I would think to 'burn' the valves (or float them) we're talking about revving that is significantly beyond that number or over-revving for an extended period of time. There are a lot of folks here that routinely rev their engine to redline without issue.

Bad downshift? :o

There is a reason why they call it a redline!

finally got a call from my dealer... it was do to a misshift... I once did a 5 to 2 downshift... instead of going to 4. I was at 90.

the repair cost is 2900$ canadian... but at my dealer they were able to put it under warranty and it will only cost me 800(Can) for the work... quite a relief.
