Brand suggestions for clutch purchasing

I own a 2003 Cl type-S 6 speed, I'm looking to buy a new clutch for it, preferrably perfomance. I have been looking on ebay motors, but a lot of the items for sale are for older models. I'm a little naive to the clutch purchasing process. I would like to get the community's suggestions for companies to purchase from and why.

Price is, but isn't an issue. The ones i did find were upwards of $700 or more.

I'd prefer a company that sells a light clutch/flywheel combo as my stock clutch weighs a ton and a half.

I would go OEM if your not pushing too much power for it.

OEM flywheel is a heavy one though. As far as I know, there is only one lightweight flywheel, which is made by AASCO or something. Dunno if it works with OEM clutch though.

Okay, I see your point for sure. What if I'm not pushing upwards of 350 whp, but looking to get there? I'll be putting a supercharger on it and buying a hondata chip for it once i get it paid off.
Would you suggest getting those items first before buying lightweight?

I know, according to their dyno charts I'll only get a 64 hp gain. I just emailed ct to get their opinion on what they suggest to run with their cupercharger kit.

Thanks for all your help though

As far as I know hondata does not make a chip for our car.

As far as clutch goes there are pretty much 3 options

Oem
Oem with aasco flywheel
Clutch master stage 3-seems like it needs modification to fit/function properly.

I'm on HBP w/ headers & intake barely breaking 300's (309 to be exact)... My clutch is in need of changing as we speak as it is behaving like a Russian figure skater under heavy throttle. More than likely going to go OEM as I really don't see the point to spending roughly $1.2k (budget) for a threshold that I'm not in... That's me though.

Piping only? Or piping w/ exhaust? I like the look of stock tips... I was actually surprised at how much louder the car got at idle (low drone; sorta G37ish). I would shoot myself if it got any louder...

Sweet! I love the 3rd gen TL's; had one for 6 months before opting for the CL-S.

I've been very attracted to the S2k lately.. It would be a great platform to start from.

Any Way You Can Send Me your Tune?

Definitely something to consider; although, i'm afraid of the volume that comes with the piping size increase...

I'm certain I can send you my map; I'll have to load the software on my laptop (my tuner worked from his) and pull the map from the box.

Shoot me a pm with your email info.

As awesome as that may be to pull on an SS; I like driving through my neighborhood without setting off alarms.

I think I'll past on that mod

If the exhaust is built properly, it wont be crazy loud or raspy. Mine in the CL has zero rasp or drone. At WOT, its deep. You can easily hold a conversation in the car without shouting.

By comparison, my FR-S has a 2.5" exhaust and its much louder then the CL.

First off - yes, we do want to see Odie! Lol

Currently, there's zero cabin noise (which I love) until you step on it; from there you hear intake suction until the charger sound starts to dominate.

Outside of the car, different story... at the rear, there's a small hint of drone (sorta like a G37); not sure what it sounds like at WOT. There's also a constant suction (intake) noise which sounds kewl, but my wife always thinks something is wrong with the car lol.

You definitely need to open up the exhaust. With the HBP you should be sitting at around 315-320whp.

As for the topic of this thread - You have a few options with the clutch.

1) All OEM/LUK (LUK makes the OEM parts)
2) OEM Flywheel and pressure plate with P2R disc
3) OEM pressure plate and disc with AASCO flywheel
4) Clutchmasters clutch and flywheel

The CM clutch, particularly the Stage 3 and above, require an extended break in period. I went ~4k miles before I went WOT or shifted hard. Many people tend to burn up this clutch in a very short time.

CT did get back to me and,not that i don't trust any of you, said the same thing. He mentioned a clutch that they no longer make and said i could Try to find one used in good shape. I'll just buy new though.

Again, I really do appreciate everyone's input, and the side conversations are netertaining to read as well as educating ((:

The Comptech clutch had a very high failure rate, if thats the clutch they were referring to.

Oh, and stay away from SPEC clutches.

x2. I have 2.5" and a 3" resonator and it sounds (from what Civic is describing) exactly like his. I can try to take some vid/clips of it and put this GoPro to use.

Full 2.5" exhaust - XS headers, Magnaflow highflow cat, Comptech b-pipe, Magnaflow resonator, Comptech axle backs:

Full 3" exhaust - Custom equal length, long tube headers, Magnaflow highflow cat, Magnaflow resonator, Magnaflow mufflers:

As far as sound goes, theres very little difference between the two.
