Brakes are gettin' easier

I'm becoming quite the wiz at brake replacements. I replaced my front rotors and pads last weekend (new drilled and slotted), and all 4 SS lines. Had to go buy an impact driver (at the suggestion of tmk70) to get the screws out of the rotors, but I eventually got 'em.

Yesterday, I replaced the front brakes on my girl's '97 Jetta. The garage wanted $319 to do the fronts, and I was like...f*ck that!! I went to Auto Zone, bought rotors and pads for $60, and did it myself. Actually, my friend helped me a bit. It's much easier to help when bleeding the brakes. Plus, he has a floor jack, jack stands, and an air compressor with tools. I can't work on my car in my complex, so I go to his house to do work.

I'll be doin' a tuneup on the Jetta this week, too.

I used to work on my Grand Prix that I was building back in the day, so I'm not totally new to this, but it's fun to do the work "myself" and save some dough.

I saw them replace brakes on a car show on TNN yesterday about noon. It did look pretty easy when you have all the right tools. I'm always afraid I'm going to do more ahrm than good when it comes to car repairs. I did change my own air filter and air conditioning filter and really got a sense of satisfaction.
