Brake light comes on when accelerating

Just started in the last week or two, and mainly happens when accelerating hard after a full stop. It also sometimes happens when I'm driving on a bumpy road. Sometimes it turns off on its own after about 20 - 30 seconds.. and also turns off when I'm coasting downhill and braking lightly... Do I just need to adjust the parking brake, or is this something more serious? I rarely, if ever, use my parking brake when parked, so I'm not sure what the cause of this might be.

It's telling you to slow down!

Actually, you need to check your brake fluid level. The light comes on to warn you that the fluid level is low. If the fluid level isn't low, the float might be stuck.

I'm just trying to give him the most common cause, and the cause that the manual states... AcuraZine members have a tendency to give huge "possibility" explanations for common, simple, and easy-to-repair problems. This is so prevelant on these forums that I am actually somewhat surprised that no one has yet responded to this thread with a "your transmission is probably dead". I've seen the transmission catch the blame for EGR and IACV problems over at the TL board.

The most likely cause is a stuck float in the brake fluid reservoir, or low brake fluid. If neither of those is the culprit, move on to other suggestions.

check your brake pads, its probably telling u that you need new brake pads. happened to me before, "BRAKE" light comes on randomly, i ignored it for a while, and then after that comes the scratching noise, which it the metal clip on the brake that is scratching the rotor, then i changed the brake pad, and everything went back to normal.

Okay, I probably should've just looked before posting here... Turns out the fluid level is just a little bit low, about a half inch above the low line, so I apparently have a slow bleed somewhere in the line which my dad says is sort of typical of japanese cars after a while.

Do you guys all stick with genuine honda brake fluid (probably not) or, what brand do you recommend as an alternative?

Also, an offtopic question... does the power steering fluid in the '01 have to be power steering fluid, or is it safe to use trans fluid?
