Bouncing Exhaust

Friend was driving my cl-p today on the freeway while i followed in my friends van. I noticed my exhaust bouncing up and down. Is that normal? Or is there a way to prevent that? I also noticed my buddy's IS250 does the same thing, but a lot worse. Looks like the car is about to fall apart.

Was it the right exhaust? The right exhaust on our cars hangs lower over time, and will bounce a little.

It is normal for any exhaust to move around a little bit. Can you describe the "bouncing" in more detail?

Another exhaust topic - what do you guys think of these?

Worth the grand experiment? I'm eventually putting XS headers on, high flow cat and resonator as well. I was looking at Flowmaster muffs like everyone likes. These just caught my eye as not being the usual eBay loud-ass nightmare.

It starts bouncing up and down when the road gets a little rough on the freeway. I would say a good 1-2 cm bounces. It just looks kinda ghetto. and its both of them.

Normal. I'd only get worried at like 2+ inches, or if it was so bad I could head it smacking the bottom of the car.

Welcome to the board too man. What color CL-P do you have?

nighthawk black. a big hassle to take care of and very sensitive to fingerprints. i slapped on some 01-02 type s wheels. i also plan on changing the exhaust, somewhat like the type s, thicker muffler tips. i do not like the typical round shaped ones. any ideas how i can get that done?

edit: can't find the thread, i saw it on which linked a cl thread. basically you buy a thing that looks like a metal zip tie... i believe it's for pipes. then u take off your rubber piece for the hanger, you put the zip tie around it and tighten it,, then u reinstall it. it should cost you a bit more than a dollar for 1.. so i'm guess 3-4 bucks =D

I too have a NBP (Nighthawk Black Pearl) Type-S (01 - so the wheels you have haha). It is a bitch to keep clean, out here in MN I am basically gonna fuggettaboudit from Mid Nov - Feb.

You can put pretty much any shape tip you want on any exhaust. You just buy the tip and then have a local exhaust shop cut off your old one and weld on the new one. If you buy say a flowmaster exhaust you can get one with no tip and then have the shop just weld on your tip of choice. That is what I would do - tipless flowmaster with a custom tip.

If you decide to go the zip-tie route, make sure they are aligned when your car comes off the lift. Only speaking from experience...i used zip ties on one of my mufflers and it was perfectly straight on the lift, but when I brought the car down the exhaust slightly shifted.
Sounds to me like your exhaust mounts are worn out...which is typical. Instead of buying new rubber mounts search online and buy polyurethane mounts.....those wont wear out over time like rubber does.

DIY on aligning CL mufflers by Mattg. Using the hose clamps will also reduce the bounce by eliminating the excess stretch of the rubber isolators:
