Bondo'ing my body kit?
hey guys,
i'm having a bit of a dilemma and hoping to get some input. i need to repaint my front and back bumpers. the front one b/c the shop didn't put flex in the paint and now it's starting to crack. the back b/c i accidentally bumped into a car and some of the paint peeled off.
i have the wings west body kit. since i'm going to repaint anyways, i'm debating whether or not to mould my kit using bondo. this would make it look like one piece instead of seeing that it is a lip kit.
some people tell me that the bondo will crack and therefore the paint will crack and i will have to keep repainting and repainting. this would be due to the fact that the polyurethane kit flexes during normal everyday driving while bondo does not. this would cause it to separate causing cracks in the bondo that would spread.
i really really want the clean "one-piece" look instead of seeing an obvious lip kit. it just looks so much better! but i don't want it to crack and have to repaint it.
anyone done this before or have any opinions?
thanks,
peter.

Ask your local body shop/supply shop about "Gorilla Hair" or "Tiger Hair". It is like bondo, but made with fiberglass strands so it can flex. Stuff is pretty damn strong too when it's mixed correctly.
My 2 cents.

is gorilla/tiger hair expensive? do you apply and sand the same way as with bondo? how much would a shop normally charge for something like that?
thanks,

if you want to mold your kit there is an epoxy mix that can bond polyurethane to metal. I wouldn't use bondo, bondoglass, fiberglass, or gorilla hair...that'll all crack. PM AcuraJL...he used to good stuff to mold his kit.

Fill i the crease with rubber cememt and paint over it. The rubber cement will still flex and with flexible paint I see a bond that should last.
Its a thought, never tried it, just thoght that it might work.
Ask a paints store and body shop if that would work, if not ask what they recomend.
