Angry Bodywork Q's

Long story short, some girl hits me on my passenger side where the fender meets the door. Car gets taken to the insurance company's "preferred" shop. The shop ends up replacing the door skin.

I get the car back, and the door looks AWFUL. The entire door panel is super rippled and wavy. Does anyone know what the procedure is when door skins are replaced?

Do the body shops just apply the skin and then paint/clear or are they supposed to do some body filling / sanding to smooth out the skin and hide imperfections?

I had the car taken to another shop and all they did was repaint the door and fender. It still looks like garbage because I dont believe any bodywork was done to smooth the wavyness. are these door skins welded at all? maybe the heating and cooling of the welding caused the metal to ripple and stretch?

i'm PISSED and don't know wtf to do...any advice would be EXTREMELY helpful.

That sucks. Some body shops just don't take the time to do a job well. Call your insurance company and tell them what your car looks like. And take it back to the body shop. If they can't get it right, see if they can replace the entire door. Post some pics of what it looks like.

My drivers side door was backed into a couple weeks ago. They replaced the whole door and it looks perfectly fine. Actually better because they cleaned up the whole side of the car, no more scratches. The guy said he could fix it by replacing the skin but its better to just put a new door on. The bill was like $1500 but the other persons insurance paid it.

Just take it back to the body shop that did it and raise hell. They'll fix it.
