Bmw 328

Not hugely exciting but I thought I'd share. I'm still running a stock CL-S 6speed.

Long Story short, I end up at a red light sitting beside a last gen BMW 328 (think they only made em in 2000). Anyways, he'd been driving like an ass so I knew he was gonna hit it off the line. I gave him about a car length, half because I wanted to see if he was going to stomp it, half because we all know the stock tires don't really provide any traction in 1st Once I saw he was going for it I put the pedal down and shifted at the redline. I had him by about 2 car lengths by 100mph.

Really though, I figured I'd have more room on a 328, I'll be keeping it in mind if I ever pull up beside a 330. The 328 looked completely stock.

Just thought I'd share this too just for fun....I had a Viper riding my ass the other day so I thought I'd do a little comparing when he moved over to pass. Now, I knew I was gonna loose, and I knew I was gonna loose bad...but wow, I was still suprised. I was heading towards the redline in 3rd when he went by and it felt like I was stopped.

good kill...and good death against the viper.

I think you should have no problem taking a 330. I took one on the highway before.

Wanna race me in my auto? That should be a good race.

definitely not..especially a manual one....i would say that it's a pretty even race (6spd vs. 5spd)

If it was an E36 328i, they were last made in 1998. The E46 328i was out in 1999 and 2000 then they upgarded the engine to 3.0L in 2001 and thus the 330i was available.

The later E36 328i pulled pretty well. They were lighter (I beleive around 3100 lbs) than the current E46 chassis and made 193 HP. But nearly 170 WHP made it to the ground.

if it was a stock 328, you should have beat by that amount you did.
with my mods i am able to take one by 5-6 cars by 100, either gen.
for a stock car, i think you did well, considering the weak launch.

Perspective: E46 330Ci is only a "hair" slower than the E36 M3.

Cool, thx for all the info. No more underestimating the little German cars.

Its definitely time to start modding. The icebox and lowering springs are going in this summer.

Its kinda funny, last year I had some guy in an older BMW 535 (early 80s) try to race me off the line. It was lowered, 18" rims and exhaust at the very least. He pulled up and rev'd so I hit it and I killed him off the line, as in, over before I hit the redline in second. Next light he pulled up and started revving , I gave him a head start, he even barked the tires a little, but again: no problem. Now of course its a heaver car than the 328 and who knows it the guy had totally warn engine....but that's why I surprised by the 3 series.
