Bird Poo and clearcoat

Dont mix. Well, I 'did it again'. Got impatient whilst removing bird Poo from the hood. It was stuck on HARD, so I decided to use a bit of elbow grease.

Now I have to go to the dealer and see if they can buff out the scratches!

Damn, Damn, Damn.

I used the garden hose, but it was on hard. Only partly came off.

Of course I was in a rush (going to be late for work) soooo...

Bring your own water is a good idea. Expecially now that the cherry blossoms are out and the birds are going crazy.

Believe it or not, the best way to remove bird crap is to spray with WD-40 and let it sit for a minute. Get it completely soluble before attempting to rub off.

If you leave it on there long enough it can eat your clearcoat as well.

It actually has a higher acidic level than battery acid, I believe.

This is what I do and has been working really well.

1. I carry a spray bottle with filter water in my trunk. Every time when the bird poo is fresh, I spray water on it and drive the car at hi speed. Then the car is clean again.

2. For those turned hard, I bought a high pressure washer at home. I spray at it with high pressure and there hasn't been a case where the poo wouldn't be washed away.

3. In unfortunate situation where there are fine scratches, I use Zymol HD-Cleanse to remove the scratches and it has worked really well.

I carry a bottle of Meguiar's Quick Detailer in my trunk and use it to get off bird crap or any other kind of stains off my CL-S's paint. It really works great. Just spray, let sit for 30 seconds, and wipe off. Incidentally, I had two huge bird crap stains on my car yesterday. I guess that's their welcome to me for Spring.

i keep a bottle of maguiar's "quick detailer" in my trunk. if you have your car waxed, this "quick detailer" gets bird poo, mud, and all other sticky stuff out in a couple of seconds (except tar). they all just seem to surface from the car and float away when wiped off. the only thing is it needs to be done under the shade and when the car surface is cool.

I use Meguilar's Quick Detailer, and my rag/car work t-shirt so kindly donated by Park Ave. Are CL's bird magnets? It seems like I always have at least one splatter.

My neighbors have a cherry tree, so I should have bright red splatters soon.

by the way, don't try to wipe off the bird crap without thoroughly rinsing the paint surface with lots of water (preferably high pressure). There may be sand or foreign particles attached to the surface and if you wipe it with a cloth, you may rub those foreign objects against the paint and damage the clear coat. The next thing you will see are fine scratches.

Yes, I learned this lesson the hard. I came back and found that thing dried up. I did not used enough water and the result is $90 for new waxing service at the dealer.

If the scratches are really bad, find a detailer (or whoever) that has a paint thickness gauge. It lets a detailer know how far they can go (with a buffer) before they remove too much clear coat. If you remove a bit too much, you loose the UV protection (I'm not talking about some numb-nuts rubbing away the whole clear-coat).

Sorry, about the bird droppings, but if you can do as many have suggested, and keep a few "wipes" around (Pep-Boys has some cotton shop wipes [just like paper towels, but are soft and blue]). Don't rub, just keep tamping with water until that sh*t is wet, then try to gently get it up. If it is done with a "reasonable" amount of time *and* the car has a good coat of (Zaino, Wax, name-yours-here), it will come up with out damage.

There are also some good citrus based bug, bird, and tar cleaners -- they will cut the wax, but I've pulled off some real nasty stuff from friend's cars with dried/baked on bird droppings.

Why is it that birds love a freshly cleaned car?

(one more opinion...)

Some bird chalked my car, so I removed it (the chalk) with some finely-tuned shape charge....worked for getting rid of the bird too!
