bimmer kill
around 11:30 last night, on my way home from the office, I rolled up to a red light and found myself sitting next to a new 3-series convertible (still had the paper tag on it) with a couple of guys in it.
I guess I really didn't expect the guy to try anything with a passenger (and a car presumably still in its break-in period) but when the light changed, he broke the rear tires loose a bit and roared off.
needless to say, I *had* to oblige the fellow and follow suit. I caught and passed him without too much fuss and after a few car lengths I started backing off as the speedo approached 60...
that's when I hear the joker open it up again, apparently under the delusion that he'd do in a roll on what he couldn't do in a standing start... so I made a point of spelling it out for him. I caught 3rd in ss and left his butt again.
by the time I shut down for good at 80, he was many car lengths back. at the next light, I was turning left, and he was turning right. I caught a glimpse of his passenger laughing his a$$ off at him and those shiny new sport package m-spoke wheels from that he (or his parents) had clearly paid too much money for.
at least they looked cool. I was just surprised at how little it took to put down someone who was so obviously trying... (reminded me of my old bike vs. vette days)
bimmer boy seemed to have forgotten some basic rules of street racing:
1. know your race and stick to it (either run light-to-light or stick to roll-ons)
2. convertibles are generally heavier than their coupe counterparts - plan your races accordingly
3. don't race another evenly matched car with *passengers* in your car
4. just because your car does 0-60 in x seconds with the manual doesn't mean it'll do it with the auto
still, he *was* in the ultimate tanning machine...

330 or not, this guy didn't strike me as someone who has a lot on the ball, as it were.

4. just because your car does 0-60 in x seconds with the manual doesn't mean it'll do it with the auto
That's the rule that almost every one forgets when they have a auto. like when they think there auto maxima is as fast as the stick version. haha

the only manuals I'm interested in anymore have six speeds (with no reverse), drive a chain and share a case with an engine revving out to 14,000 rpm. heh.

I purposely chose my cl-s because it is a fast automatic. no fuss, no muss.

LOL...
And, that's why I bought the CL-S. An automatic with punch! Just thank god that they didn't put the 1st gear from the Maxima's automatic in ours
Plus, add in the freeway jams etc (cattle shoots -- Moo... Moo...) *and* the automatic rules. (Need to win jackpot to have a supercar with stick/manual for the weekends in the mountains!)

That's the big reason why I chose the CL..an auto...a stick is nice, until you hit Bay Area or LA traffic and then you sit on the stupid clutch the entire day!!!

Well I have to give it to you. That was a good kill. I hate BMW owners who mess around. I have people with old 325s and 540s try to race me in my ///M3. Crazy! That must have been a kid whose parents just bought him the car because he didn't care much about the break in period. Hate losers like that!

540s are fast little things. If you have a stock CLS then you got somewhat lucky.

The drivers make a big difference. I agree totally. Seen people with corvettes lose to mustang gts because the guy in the corvette doesn't know his car.
