BEWARE: Aftermarket throttle body on daily driver

I want to let everyone know the trouble I've gone through with my B series 70mm billet Skunk2 pro throttle body. If you're using your car on the track, disregard, this throttle body is amazing for trailered car track use.

Installation: difficulty 3/5

The B series throttle body comes in many different sizes and is a direct bolt on to a CL-S intake, the only thing that might be hard to track down is a TPS sensor, but a TPS off of a D series will work. There's no bolt on for the IAC valve, but P2R sells an adapter for it that comes with a modified throttle cable bracket to line up with the B series throttle body. Some vacuum lines will need to be rerouted. Other than that everything just bolts together.

Problem:

The P2R IAC valve adapter plate is a good idea, well made, but the ports are too small and the vacuum lines will need to be at least 6 inches. In my personal experience, it does not work for a daily driver, car may have an idle surge and the AC will cause RPM to drop to around 550.

The MAP sensor is also mounted to the bottom, it will collect water/oil over time and fail, at about $80 for the OEM Denso part, this will get expensive.

You will also lose your cruise control.

Conclusion:

The Skunk2 pro throttle bodies are very well made and do what they're designed to do very well for a B series motor. For the J series, it's not a good idea for a daily driver. Without the AEM standalone ECU, there's no way to tune the car to take advantage of the extra air flow. In my opinion, to get a little more power and fun out of your J32A2 motor, do the 3.7 SHAWD IM and the AEM CAI. The stock throttle body vs the 70mm Skunk2, I can't tell a difference in acceleration, response, or power.

The stock throttle body is more than enough for anyone not running FI. You aren't likely to see any real difference from running a larger one outside of that application. Far better places to invest the money.

Thanks for the insights on the Skunk2 setup. Seems rather stupid placement of the MAP sensor.
