Betteries

I was starting my car today and noticed that it was struggling to start up. I popped open my hood to find that the battery had some white dust around the positive terminal, which I would suspect to be a leakage some how, and that hte green light indicator is very dark. I know that nothing was left on my car last night, so I was wondering how long do batteries normally last? My CL is the 98 3.0 and has 42000 miles on it. Is it about time for a change, or is there something draining my battery? I have had fog lights on there for over a year now and a V1. I think that is not the problem so any ideas? Thanks a lot!

I had my original battery for my '97 CL up until about 150,000 miles and that was after i left the lights on and had to jump it. I also have fog lights, hard wired speaker phone/charger thingy, and a hard wired radar detector. I also found that my car takes a few extra cranks to start sometimes and Acura said thats normal. The white crusty stuff seems pretty normal too as long as their isnt excessive build-ups of it.

As a battery ages all cells begin to weaken and not at the same rate. You will generally develop one weak cell. This cell will draw power from the other cells. With a weak cell the battery is not able to maintain power between charges. Thus the slow start. Once this process begins it is all down hill.
You may want to replace the battery before it leaves you stranded.

Thanks for the info...I just noticed that I spelled battery wrong in the topic!! Anyhow, yeah I think I am going to go get a new battery or see if this one can be recharged tomorrow. I have to go draw some blood tomorrow though..
