I live in Oregon, so it rains like 10 months out of the year.

IMO an Injen CAI with a Hydroshield works pretty well. I've had that on when it's been pouring rain and I never had a problem. Of course that doesn't stop me from getting scared shitless that it'll hydrolock. If I had the time (and could remember exactly how the lines went before) I'd just change back to a stock intake in October or so, then change back in maybe April.

its not illegal to take out ur resonator (intake or exhaust) i have both of mine out with a drop in k&n filter. works fine for me. had it like this during the winter on my tl and never had a problem. depending on where u live, a short ram might be best if u drive to knee high floods. dont know why u would do that in the first place but ok. u can get a cold air and a bypass valve higher up the intake pipe so if u air filter gets submerged in water, the bypass valve will open do to engine sucking in the diaphragm and will take in air from the engine bay. no water will be sucked in.

Yeah, just cut it. But if you spent all that money on a CAI might as well just buy some cheap tubing and make a ram air. Or sell the CAI and get a ram and pocket the rest.

I bought the Cheap CAI from Ebay and just removed the filter With a K&N Filter
the Accord Forums said it was a good idea to do it?

So I can just cut the CAI to make A Ram Air!
thats Cool

I just bought the injen CAI. I live in Washington (state) where we get quite a bit of rain, snow, sleet, hail, puddles, etc. I'm now rethinking this decision after how much I've read here about hydrolocking. It still sounds rare-ish, but i'd hate to hit some big puddle and have to get a new engine...

Can anyone comment on the effectiveness of the injen hydroshield? (I cant imagine that it makes a huge difference, its still got holes in it (obviously). Would my best bet be to find a v1 AEM intake with bypass valve or just pitch that idea and go short-ram (which wouldn't bother me that much I guess, my accord had an intake that terminated just in front of the battery inside the engine bay).

I've done quite a bit of searching on this, but yet to find any definite answers, any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Just realized this is the 2G TL area, but still any feedback is appreciated.

I'm sure it helps for just rain, but I wouldn't feel good about my air intake unless I was fairly certain it could take some good splashes (driving through a puddle big enough to shoot water up, but not so big that its actually over the fender -- I know submerging it is well beyond the capabilities of the hydroshield )

then just buy a short ram for a tl-s and get you a 4 in long 3 in wide piece of pipe so it fits, its what I did so i can have a short ram, and it only cost me 132 bucks for everything, think weapon r makes it if im not mistaken, and just use cold air during dry weather and short ram during rainy season.

I decided to leave my order for the injen in, but I also ordered a cheap worthless air intake system off ebay for 53. I figure if I need some metal pipe, i'll use that kit and cut it down to fit/etc and choose which ever filter is best

I would have bought the weapon intake in the first place, but I was leery of the foam filter elements. It would be nice for having no oil to possibly gum up the throttle body, but on the other hand i've only ever had the oiled cotton gauze style.

I'm sure something will work out

I have an Injen intake with a Hydroshield (like I said before) and yeah the Hydroshield does work well. Like Injen says, it's water repellent, not water-proof. Before I bought it I called a guy at Injen and he told me it totally protects against splashes, rain water, puddles, etc. just so long as the intake isn't completely submerged in water (in which case you probably wouldn't be driving) then it should protect against hydrolocking.

When I took the thing out of the packaging I ran it under a faucet and it pretty much just got damp -- not enough to get you into a hydrolock situation.... You also gotta realize that there's already a splashguard between your tire, the ground, and your CAI.

Regardless you should always be wary of big puddles on the driver's side, IMO.

The icebox is considered a cold air since it has a like snorkle like tube that hangs as low as a CAI. The actual filter resides in that square box.

I LOVE my Icebox. Not obnoxious sounding, but adds power. Definately the way to go if youve got the money IMO.

If you live in an area where they salt the roads in winter, I would switch back to stock. The CAI filter gets nasty dirty.

its more powerful and more quiet. also u cant hydro lock ur engine unless u drive in a pond of water thats goes to the top of the bumper. but even them it has a rubber flap on the side of the box that will prevent hydro lock unless the water is above ur hood.

Yeah right after I spent $200+ on my Injen CAI, I noticed the icebox. If I had the chance I'd go back and switch it for an icebox.

but oh well, the CAI + hydroshield seems to work well enough
