Benz trannies can die young too

heyhey--not picking on Mercedes, but since any thread that discusses Acura short comings eventually meets a post from someone bowing to the Benz and wishing Acura could be perfect like them... thought you might like to know...

Saw a friend of mine at the gas station the other day, driving a loaner Benz instead of his SL500. He told me they had to yank his tranny--10K miles on the car and it's shot. His front tires were gone too--they told him it was his fault driving into corners too hard (he's an older and very tame driver), but he didn't bite and told them to give him new ones--an alignment problem I suppose.

I'm not saying Benz tranny problems are the norm, just reporting... (though I've heard from a couple of sources that the C class in particular doesn't live up to the lofty Benz reputation--had to sacrifice a bit to compete on price with the 3 series BMW and other low end sport luxury's like the CL/TL)...

I call BS on this.... not on the tranny but the tyres.... how do tyres just wear out like that... remember MB does not make tyres so something else must be goin on withthe wheels. About the tranny, well youre right.. noone is perfect!

I had a car with bad alignment out of the box and the front tires were toast at 10-12k. It was obviously toed-in on both tires and left them scalloped and caused the shocks to get worn out too. It wasn't obvious until it was too late (it drove normal until the wear got to the point where I was bouncing along the freeway to and from work). I was younger and more naive then and just replaced tires and shocks (replaced the tires, then found that the shocks were shot and replaced them). Today I'd go make the dealer take care of it.
