The paint that was used on mine is German, made by BASF and has a lifetime warranty on the color and they will fix any chips that may occur for free. I was also told that our cars have poor quality control, USA for ya! The bumpers and spoilers are painted in a different place than the car body and different paint additives are used for flexing purposes. This explains the color variations, I was told that they become exaggerated when the car is dirty as many have noted on the satin silver S'. He also told me that sometimes there will be "natural" differences in color for misc reasons. None should be noticed by the naked eye, he showed me a sample of how they test spots to determine a match for parts of the car. A computer takes note of the adjacent areas to the damaged zone and suggests matches. Some are very close others are not. They then paint swatches with 3-4 variations on the color and visually pick the closest by holding them to the car and then analyzing them on a computer again. The process is interesting and I do hope that the person painting your car takes you seriously. Unfortunately most insurance companies only allow for the car to be brought back to OEM specs, we all could have our cars and bumpers etc matched perfectly but that would be extra in most cases, and requiring the entire car to be repainted as well. Let me know what happens!
