Mercury! I sure did! Thank you very much. The customer service dude from the shop looked at the car and was being a prick... he even refused to take a look at the paint codes you gave me saying (Oh we already have all of that in OUR computer). Then the painter came out and was really nice. He admited it was all wrong and said it was probably becaues they use Dupont paint, and that the Dupont just doesn't match. He took the codes you gave me and was able to tell what brand they used on your car from that. I spoke to the shop yesterday and they told me that the painter called around to some other Honda shops and found out what brand paint they use so they ordered some of that for my car. Is hondas silver the same as acuras?

Im taking it back in Monday to get it repainted, so hopefully they match it right this time!! Thanks again for your help!

It depends.

Honda has at least two tones of silver.

One matches... one doesnt.

The paint that was used on mine is German, made by BASF and has a lifetime warranty on the color and they will fix any chips that may occur for free. I was also told that our cars have poor quality control, USA for ya! The bumpers and spoilers are painted in a different place than the car body and different paint additives are used for flexing purposes. This explains the color variations, I was told that they become exaggerated when the car is dirty as many have noted on the satin silver S'. He also told me that sometimes there will be "natural" differences in color for misc reasons. None should be noticed by the naked eye, he showed me a sample of how they test spots to determine a match for parts of the car. A computer takes note of the adjacent areas to the damaged zone and suggests matches. Some are very close others are not. They then paint swatches with 3-4 variations on the color and visually pick the closest by holding them to the car and then analyzing them on a computer again. The process is interesting and I do hope that the person painting your car takes you seriously. Unfortunately most insurance companies only allow for the car to be brought back to OEM specs, we all could have our cars and bumpers etc matched perfectly but that would be extra in most cases, and requiring the entire car to be repainted as well. Let me know what happens!
