Beat a new sl500 bad today...
But I was in my vette cause my TRANNY BLEW! It was still pretty cool, though. This guy thought he was hot sh-t cause he was in one of the first new sl500's in the country. So he tries to pass me on the on-ramp to the turnpike (mistake #1)- then he starts tail gating (mistake #2). Finally I get caught in some traffic in the left lane (I hate florida drivers!) and I see in the rear view that this guy really want s to pass me- he's coming on strong in the right lane. I downshift to 3rd make my way over 2 lanes- just as he passes me I floor it bang right to the rev limiter now 4th gear and I am gaining on him FAST (he is still flooring his car) by 120 I am passing him and there is nothing he can do! I say I beat him bad cause when I first got behind him in the right lane he was already going about 10 mph faster than me. Even though this guy was a 8=====D, And he chose a really ugly color (pale green) the car is sweet! It looks fantastic. The only problem is its got no real balls- I guess that is what AMG is for. Can't wait until that race !

Sorry to hear about your tranny. At least your 2nd vehicle is not to shabby.

I checked the site out last nite for the first time in about 6 months- been real busy with the kid and the vette. Thought someone was bullshittin me when they said there was a tranny forum. Should I expect a loaner car from Acura while they replace the tranny?

For any warranty work I would expect an Acura loaner (TL, CL, RL). Not some POS rental or old integra. When you have some time, could you post your tranny experience to the forum?

The New SL500s are pretty quick cars, but a modded C5 isnt much of a fair match
A couple months ago I was riding in my friends CLK55 AMG when we had a pretty good race with a 2002 C5. I guess the Xenon headlights caught his attention and he thought he was messing with a 320/430. The guys lost by at least 3 carlengths from about 70-140ish.

A 2002 C5 lost to a CLK55 by 3 car lengths? Are you serious? I highly doubt that unless he wan't really racing.
The 2002 C5's have more torque and hp than the 2001 and lower C5's. I remember that model kept up exactly with the M5, which definitely is faster than a CLK55
The CLK55 isn't THAT fast

Anything is possible- BUT given everything being equal, at worst it should be a tie. When I say at worst I mean the vette is an auto with the 2.73 gears and a weak motor from the factory. Those run approx. 13.40's stock. The CLK55 runs approx 13.6 stock. I played with the CLK55 quite a few times in my vette. I pulled hard on them all the time (of course I am not stock ). As far as being a german car on the highway- acceleration is acceleration. The vette is a faster car to 150 than the CLK55.

Exactly. A german car is no better on the highway than a Vette. It all comes down to gearing, torque, HP and aero efficiency.
I have driven a number of German cars in my life, and my friend's father has a CLK55. It can NOT beat a C5 by 3 car lenghts

Anyways those are mag times. He has run his CLk55 vs his lightly modded C5 and they were dead even to about 100 when they shut down. As for a Stock C5 vs a CLK55 on the highway that would be a good race. I believe a Auto C5 would get walked by a CLK55 and a manual would be really close.
And Acceleration isnt Acceleartion. Gearing and Aerodynamics play come into factor from aroll. Some cars are geared for power off the line, German cars are geared to run on the highway. Drive any V8 German car and you will know what I mean.

The Vette is a FAST car and should beat a CLK55 9 times out of 10

From a Standstill possibly...But from a roll the CLk55 has the gearing advantage vs a auto c5. I love Vettes and they are the only GM product i would remotely come close to buying. They are great performance buys for the money.

And dont flame my friend cause he has a auto C5 (or CLK55), because that is arguably the slowest car in his garage by far.

The last time I dynoed my vette, it pulled 332.4 hp and 348.5 lbs torque at the wheels. I have since added the Borla exhaust which is good for AT LEAST 8 rwhp. If you take into consideration drivetrain loss (15%) I was right at 393 hp in a Garage- AND not taking full advantage of the cold air intake. With the Borla and the wind in the vette's face I am over 400 hp at the flywheel. The 394+ hp package is the name Breathless gave its package of bolt on mods. It just so happens that the dyno numbers back up their claims .
Maximized- you state that the CLK55 has a gearing advantage vs the C5 on the highway. What are you talking about? The CLK comes with a final drive ratio of 2.82. The vette comes standard with 2.73 in auto and has an option from the factory of 3.15's. The 6 speed comes with 3.42's. How is this an advantage? ESPECIALLY since the CLK weighs in at a mighty 3500+ pounds.

Anways a stock C5 auto from a 70 mph roll to 155 is gonna get pulled pretty hard. Doesnt matter if it is a 2.73 or 3.15 gear. A 6 speed manual would probably pull very little on a CLK55.
FYI...When my friend raced this C5 there was another passenger including me in the MB. One time we let the guy take a 1 car hit and we still pull by him effortlessly, so there is no doubt he was racing.

As a matter of fact i do know- not that fast. We have plenty of CLK55's down here in south Florida. I have yet to have a close race with any of them. Take the video- someone on this forum will help you post it. I would REALLY like to see a CLK walk on a vette. Don't take my posts the wrong way...I don't think the vette is the fastest car out there- I just know there is no way a stock CLK will beat it.

BTW I drove my friends C5 auto last night. The thing hauls ass!! I was at 20 mph and floored it and it ripped the S0-3s lose. That thing has amazing low end torque. I drove it around for a good 20 minutes and was amazed at the ride and build quality. The Vette is light years ahead of any GM product ive driven and that includes Cadillac STS's.

i dont mean to get on your bad side here but regardless of speed, that sl500 owns the vette in every way shape and form excpet price. dont go dissin the sl they are badass. he has a reason to feel like hotshit, those are pimp-mobiles.

"owns the vette"? I don't think so. it may be a pimping car- but it is no sports car. It is more like the Lexus SC 430 than the vette or Porsche. Lets go to the track and see who owns who.
