Battery

Sup guys. I took my car for an oil change, and the dealer told me I need a new battery. They are charging me $120 for a new one. Is that a pretty good price? I have a 2001 cls with 52000 mile. If not, any battery suggestions. Thank you in advance.

I think you can go to any automotive shop and installed it for free or minimal charge for under $120. I think at costco battery for my TL was around $80CDN

Thank you, by the way, I bought the car certified less than a year ago. Would that be covered under the warranty? Thanks again in advance.

its a known scam, the same thing happened to me, except that they wanted $140. I had no choice, they were fixing my SRS light under warranty (after I called Acura customer care...). So they basiaclly told me that they need to replace a battery or they can't continue fixing my SRS light. So I said fuk it, I did not feel like wasting more time going to the dealer.
They gave me a decent battery though, 100 Month limited warranry, and 3 years free replacement. its an Acura battery (not Honda like I had before).
But you can still get a die hard battery in Sears for $80 with 100 month warranty as well.

Sears Die Hard Gold is $80, & you can install it yourself. It's not a hard thing to do. Check the dealer's website. They might have a coupon for a battery or $$ off parts or service. 2 of the dealers by me have internet coupons. One of which is an Acura battery for $69.99 plus install & tax.

I don't think it will be covered under the warranty. Sometimes they will pro-rate it, but good luck with that. I got mine at the dealership a couple months ago.

I just posted this reply to another battery question.
My battery is just over 4 years old and still going strong.
When it fails I plan on getting the same brand that was installed by Acura.
O'Rileys seems to be the only one, beside the dealer, which sells the Delphi battery. I never had a battery last over four years.
I believe O'Rileys sells this battery for around $70.00

Optima at Sears

Thats what I ended up with and its solid. However, before you do, ask the Sears Auto Manager what is the lowest he will go on an Optima. Or if Chi has a big old warehouse buy type place that sells Optimas, check it out. If you don't want to do your own install and want Sears to, ask if he will match the warehouses price on an Optima.

Search will show many knowledgeable posters love the Optima.

Also, i dont have the post but it was said after install to start the engine and do nothing else for 10 minutes. Do not put car in gear, do not rev motor at all. In order to set the computer. Anyone got an updated take on this?

Thanks for all the infos, deeply appreciated. I went to Sears today and ended up buying Diehard gold for $89.99. I installed it myslef, works great so far. Anyways, I had an appointment at the dealer for the parking brakes, it would stay on when its cold. I got there late, so they game me a loaner, an 06 TL auto. I fell in love with it right away. I mean, I still want my cl, but I'm definitely thinking of buying one. I didn't really like the TL at first, but after driving it, now I love it. Just thought I'd share. Thanks again guys for all your help.
