backup camera installed!...56k beware...

We spent about 6hrs yesterday (5pm-11.30pm) to complete the backup camera install. What took so long was that we needed to find a uni-bit that was 1inch in diameter. Found one. But it wouldn't fit the freaking Dewalt!!! Bastards!! Here are pics!

This is calidog's car. If you recall he has the AV Electronics Navi Conversion here. Redryder83 and calidog did the majority of the install.

It auto switches to backup when you put the car into reverse, just like how the passengers mirror rotates down.

Thank you everyone for your kind compliments!

Wayne: on the AV Electronics Navi Conversion unit, there are 3 inputs. The last input is designed for a backup camera and you wire it so that whenever your in reverse...it switches over. calidog didn't want to do that in this case...he just wanted it as a camera that he could turn on and off. So with his remote...he just switches to the 3rd input.

Really nice install. I just have a couple of questions. Does the unit come with everything for the complete install? Blizsafe, etc (I know the RCA's don’t.) How is the sound quality? Where did you plug the power wire and remote wire? Lastly where did the RCA's go to the head unit?

Sorry for the 20 question but i just want to see if I can install this myself.

Zapta...cost of hte camera was like 82. It works really well at night! Part number...I need to ask my friend.

CT3.2: go to www.bui4ever.com/projects.htm and click on navi conversion. That's the directions.

The RCAs go to whereever you want to locate your external units (i.e. DVD player, backup camera, and so on). The remote wire went to the front where the ODB II cover is located.

Ouch. If you have to remove the camera, you have a hole on your bumper.
I did this a while back. If I remove the camera, I'll on another license plate holder and no one see anything.

Hey I'm actually posting!!! Anyways nice install on the camera. Thanks Redryder83 and Peiqinglong! It rained the very next day after the camera was installed and no problems so far! It really is waterproof. Now I have to mount one on the front!!

Calidog,
Be careful with mounting it on the front. It has mirror image, it will confuse the heck out of you. If you want one for the front, get one without mirror image.

Yeah I chose a camera with standard image so it should be fine. I'm just worried about pebbles and rocks that might hit the camera when I mount it on the front.

Mount it higher in the grille. It will have less chance of being hit by a rock.

I'm going to figure out which camera to use for the front. If have space for a larger camera, I can use one with infrared LEDs for better night vision. I will definitely be at the next meet if I'm not working on that day. looking forwards to meeting more new members!

camera info
Correction on the cost of the camera i used. It's $183. not $82. I'm not saying it's the best camera, there are tons out there but it's works well for me. This is the part number and place I ordered from in case you guys are interested
http://www.surveillance-video.com/cvc637exheat.html
ask for the 3.6mm lens instead of the 6mm lens for a wider angle
6mm lens only gives 62 degrees
3.6mm lens gives 88.5 degrees
*note: this camera is a standard image not mirror image
