Back from Miami...
Back from Miami...
and just changed the oil for the 4th time as the CLS-6 passed 12K.
Here's a few impressions:
CL - An incredible highway car that still feels very athletic. Exhaust is almost too quiet as I'd like a little snarl when getting on it seriously. My butt gets a little numb after a few hours but the seatback is perfect. (My SHO's seats did not leave me with a numb butt.)
Police - Light activity in Virginia, Georgia, and Florida; moderate in North Carolina and Philadelphia; ridiculous in South Carolina. SC didn't get me this time but they came close. Vigilance is the key in this entire state. Their current fav maneuver is instant-on from behind at an on-ramp from an overpass. It is important here to NOT hit your brakes when the V1 goes off, as this will identify you. Instead decelerate and set the cruise just below the speed limit. One Camaro tried this maneuver and then paced me for 5 miles. I even temporarily removed the V1 to give him no reason to suspect this gray-haired driver. They are mostly using Camaros in the Carolinas (silver, black, blue), and a few Ford CVs.
Congestion - The return trip was 19 hours due to: 1 hour construction stoppage in NC; 1/2 hour construction/accident delay in Maryland; 1/2 hour delay due to closure of I-95 at Philly Airport (but here I knew the back roads).
Weather - The southbound ride ran into rain from Daytona south. It became torrential as we got closer to Miami. In Miami it felt like Noah's Ark was due.
CLs spotted - Just a single one in Miami on Kendall. It was a silver Type S w/out spoiler. He seemed like he wanted to play a bit but we had to turn into Nob Hill. Saw none on the Interstate, but there was a white TL that kept up for a while on the return.
Gas Prices - lowest to highest: GA, SC, VA, PA, NC, FL. 27mpg for the trip while cruising 80~90.
Food - Shortys barbeque, in Miami, is simply the best.
Brought my son's Eclipse in to Kendall Mitsubishi for routine service. I wish that Acura dealers were as accomodating and courteous.
