Aye...aggrivated

Ok so, I was reading up on the a-tl.com forums and some guy was asking about if you could take out the resonator before the mufflers, if it would give the stock exhaust a good note. So, I decided today to go down to some muffler shop and have em take it out and replace it with just straight pipe. No big deal right? It's only a resonator. So, all is said and done, I start her up, and it sounds pretty good...I like it. I drive off, and I'm really starting to like it. Then, I decided to put a little more 'oomph' into the pedal and I slowly climbed up to 2500rpms, where ALL OF A SUDEEN, the exhaust sounds like a FART CAN! What the fuck?! From 2500-3000rpm (roughly) the car sounds like SHIT! Besides that, it sounds great!! What's the problem? Should I just put the resonator back on? That's yet ANOTHER $35 out of my pocket though

should have done some more research, usualy removing resonators causes a raspy tone though, not a "fart can" noise...

Yeah, i think the stock exhaust was specifically designed NOT to give a "fart can" sound, removing the resinator was a big no no

lol dude it was there for a reason. even the comptech b-pipe has one .. if there was some benefit to taking it out I'm sure they wouldn't have gone through the trouble of welding one in

i kept my exhaust stock, and i love the sound it makes when i give the car gas... it seems like they had that tone in mind when they were putting the CLS together... and the engines roar aint bad either.

yeah I know...I love the sound of my car ... or the way it was before...I just thought I could add a little note to the exhaust, without getting an axle back. But hey, you live and learn. Looks like I'm going back tomorrow to fix it. You know what's weird though...I put it in park and revved it up to 3k, and it didn't make the sound. It only does it while I'm driving? Weird Thanks for the help though.

The amount of exhaust going through your B-pipe is much different neutral v. driving. I posted a few months ago the same question, I realized it would sound horrible.

On my VW, removing the resonator made the car sound 100% better. I guess different engines, different outcomes.

Removing the resonator usually makes the exhaust tone 'resonate'

the reason why I decided to go w/ it was because a couple guys on the a-tl boards did it on their TL, and said it sounds great. I figured it's pretty much the same fucking car, so it should be the same. I thought wrong. Also, they say they have 2 resonators, where I no ticed today that we only have 1? Am I trippin, or is that how it is?

the other resonator they're referring to is probably the resonator under your air filter..i also think thats the one they removed..i took my resonator out in the front and it sounds very nice, much deeper..its pretty damn small compared to my old accords resonator though, which probably explains why our engine is pretty loud for stock

theres two resonators. one right after the cat and one that looks like a muffler before the y-pipe. the one the tlers usually remove is the cylinder looking one after the cat.

wait a resonator under the air filter taken off makes the car sound a lot more aggressive and nicer?

yes. take off your bumper and when you're facing the hood, it should be on your right hand side...look at the drive side wheel, and to the left of it you should see a black box, just unbolt it...one of the bolts is pretty hard to reach thouhg...honestly the difference isn't as noticeable on the cl-s...but i took the resonator off on my friends' 03 av6...and man it made a world of a difference...for our cars...it sounds lower..reminds me of a k&n filter i suppose.
