Average Timing Belt Cost

Just hit 103,000 and I'm nearing that infamous timing belt service interval. Called the dealer and got a quote for 675 plus tax.. Just curious how this falls inline with the prices everyone else has paid to have their timing belt service done. (btw, this does not include the accessory and drive belts as I just replaced those myself)

Are you doing the whole 105k service or just T-belt? I know you said you just replaced the belts, but what about seals, etc?

I just still can't believe people are paying so much for this service. Buddy just got his tranny replaced with 100K warranty in Tacoma, WA for 2800. Not off subject but this same place did his 105k service for 379 plus tax which included parts. Also with warranty. I can also think of several other places local to me where I can get this done for between 300-500. The low end is of course me buying my own parts. Maybe it's because the PNW is Japanese auto city haha but I just wouldn't spend that much to get that done and I won't be later this summer when I get mine done. About 18k miles away from 105k but she's gonna be 7 real soon!

I paid $688 4 years ago. It included the timing belt, water pump, all belts, etc. It was done at an independant shop.

How involved is the timing belt service? Should a reliable independent shop be good enough (for less $650) or should I go for the "reliability" of local Acura shop ($900)

A reputable indy shop is more than good enough.

I agree. My car gets serviced at W&K Automotive as they specialize in only Honda and Acura automobiles. Just be sure the shop technicians are ASE certified.

same. I hung around out back of a honda dealership and asked the 1st mech I saw if he wanted to do some side work. I bought parts online (some site I saw on here) and he did the work a little over 350. Honda mechanics are great people to make friends with. I live in Saint Louis, if anyone's looking, shoot me a pm and I'll pass on his name and number.

Oh and the work was done in the honda shop on his off time which is a common perk for tenured mechs.
