Damn, those look sweet. I was just about to order until I saw their reply about the TL pedals. I always thought the TL and CL auto pedals were the same... but I'd like to know for sure before ordering a set.

Anyone know??

You need to take off the plastic on the door threshhold (Just pull it up)and the plastic where the HOOD release is (2 pull pins that hold that in)(Just pull)... I also took the plastic molding off from under the steering wheels since I had my large 18V DEWALT drill..

I sanded the Clutch and Brake pedal after I was all done drilling then I got some Metal polish and tore into them. Then painted the raw metal with clear nail polish.

As for the kick plate you need to pull one fastener out of the floor with a large screw driver.. then you can pull the carpeting back so you can tighten the kick plate down

They feel great...A hell of alot better than stock. .
I didn't have to remove any moulding to do a good install. The hardest parts were
1) physically working on the floor of the car under the steering wheel and in front of the seat. Very cramped.
2) drilling the top holes for the brake & clutch. I had to depress the pedal part way to get the angle right and not bump against the under dash moulding.

Other then that, it wasn't a big deal. I thought that the drilling would actually be harder to do, but the metal was not that hard to penetrate with the bits.

So Slimey how did you install the PICK PLATE then if you did not have to remove the Hood release molding to get to the platic push button under it?....

I had to get underneath the carpet some how to tighten the nuts.

I found it alot EASIER to remove the molding under the steering wheel when I drilled the top of the brake pedal...I got the correct angle... I guess I own BIG BOY tools ..

Smitty,
I'm confused on the kick plate...I thought the kickplate simply went on top of the carpet....Did you remove anything prior to screwing it down?

Have any close-up pics of the pick, I mean kick plate?

And ps - What what size/type of hex/screwdriver do I use to mount those non-phillips head screws?

I felt this is the correct way to install the kick plate... Directly OVER top of the stock one..... why someone would want to move it closer to the clutch pedal... I thought it looked cheesy over there...(i.e. Half ASSed)...but that is my .02

You need a small Allen wrench.. I don't know the exact size and ___ open ended wrench... I can't remember.. someone else want to chime in??

If you look at my picture on page one you'll see the same correct mounting of the dead pedal on top of the plastic one. I just slipped it behind the moulding. There was a small gap there anyway.

Tighten nuts under carpet? The accelerator and dead pedals screw into place with self tapping screws, not a nut and bolt.

My drill is not big ass in any way. It's an old corded Skil. I could see that it would be pretty troublesome to drill the top hole with a bigger drill.

The small-ish one that's a little smaller then large and a little bigger from small in your allen wrench set! :P

I used a 9mm socket for the self locking nuts.

Well I only got 3 self tapping screws and they were used for the accelerator pedal... the other 9 were bolts and nuts.

Ah hah. I had 6 screws total, and six nut/bolts total. I used self tapping screws to put in the dead pedal (which worked nicely -- hasn't budged in a couple weeks now!).

I didn't even drill anything for the accelerator or the dead pedal, just used self tapping screws as designed.

I hate to be a PIA for the autovation.net guys, but I wonder if they included too many bolts/not enough screws. With the bolts through the carpet, is your carpet raised in the corner? Mine's not.

Even autovation.net instructions say to use self tapping screws for the dead pedal.

That has been a very nice part of this change; I had a hard time before without riding way up on the brake pedal. Now just a slight roll of the foot allow for a throttle blip on the downshifts.

The pedal covers are curved because the pedals are curved.

alright guys

i tried the install tonight, superglues the gas and break pedals. i started to work onthe brake. now for the brake instructions said to use 3/16"drill bit so i started w/ a brand new colbat bit 1/8" to pilot and went on to 3/16". it shattered on me. i am ok and the pieces of the bit didn't seem to screw the interior of the car up it just shatttered so i can't put the fuckin' nut and bolt on to secure the pedal.

wtf anyone else have trouble or is it just me?

by the way i did use lubricant for the drill bit.

comments? help?

Buy a new bit.

Drill without putting any lateral torque on the bit (ie: the bit won't work like a bendy straw).

I thought the drilling went easier then I expected. I didn't use lubricant.

can i ask you how long was your drill bit?

mine was about 4 inches long or so, was yours shorter? my pops mentioned trying to use a shorter drill bit, but i didn't see any at home depot

anyways thank for the reply. and btw i know you mentioned that the pedals are curved to conform to the oem, but on the auto they are flat, so these new pedals are a little ackward

You'd be less likely to laterally torque a shorter bit, so he has a good point.

I used a pretty standard length bit, maybe about 3.5-4", designed for steel. I don't think it was cobalt or otherwise special either. It was only a couple $$.

If you don't think the pedals covers match up to the pedals, you should email the folks at autovation.net. I'm sure they'll be of help. The M/T covers fit my car perfectly (of course they were measured out and prototyped by yours truly ).

You're the first person to post about the auto cover mounting experience (sounds like a porn movie). I'm sure they'll want to know how it works, as will all your automatic compatriots.

The instructions seem simple enough:

Approximate installation time: 20-30 minutes

Remove the rubber covers from the brake and clutch pedal.
Hold the aluminum pedal covers over the factory pedals and mark where the holes need to be drilled.
Gas & footrest: Drill the holes using a 1/8” or smaller drill bit, being careful not to get the holes too large. It is possible to turn the screws into the plastic without drilling pilot holes. Carefully turn the self-tapping screws (silver finish) into the factory pedals to tap the holes. Remove the screws and place the pedal covers onto the pedals and turn the screw back in to attach the aluminum pedals. Note: Some gas pedals may have a hard, thin plastic cover over a steel pedal. This plastic may not be thick enough to hold the self-tapping screws. In this case remove the plastic cover and install the Autovation gas pedal on top of the metal pedal.
Brake & clutch: Drill the holes with a 3/16” (.187”) drill bit. To make easier, pilot holes should be drilled first. Using loctite*, attach the pedals with the black machine screws and lock nuts.
* When attaching all screws / bolts / nuts / etc., use a medium or high strength threadlocker (blue or red Loctite); loctite not included.

Check that all pedals are securely attached.

Make sure all pedals have adequate clearance

Make sure the gas pedal does not contact the floor or floor mat

Re-Check all pedals after driving

Tips / Tricks:

Use new Cobalt drill bits

Use a cutting fluid (lubricant) on your drill bit

Use crazy glue to adhere the covers to pedals. After the glue dries you can use the holes as guides to prevent skating. Always be sure to use all the bolts provided in the kit.

Use a corded drill. If you are using a cordless drill make sure it is fully charged.

Notes:

The pedal covers are engineered to match the profile on your application.

The gas pedal is smooth so that your shoe will slide over its surface.

well after trying to install the auto pedals again here's what i have come up with.... It doesn't work, the set i got doesn't fit right, the brake pedal is not curved enough to fit over the stock one and the gas pedal it too curved to fit snug on top the stock one.

AGHHHH

anyways i just e-mailed them, so i have to wait and see what the dilly-o is.

TLHASTZ .. your right, the auto gas pedal is more curved than the stock one. but it still went on for me. It seems pretty secure. However I SNAPPED my drill bit into 3 pieces so I have to wait til tomorrow to install the brake pedal. Please let me know what they say about your pedal set .. if they are sending you a new updated one or not. blader@comcast.net
