Autometer Boost and Fuel Pressure Gauge Install Questions

For those of you whom have the gauges installed. Where did you get power from? I would like connect to the dimmer switch for the gauge lights... where's the best location to do that? Then where's the best location to get power for the actual gauges? Thanks guys.

ignition. Big fat white and yellow wires. Forget which one is which, but I'll look it up for you if you want.

If you have the electric sweep ones, you need a power source that does not get turned off while cranking... i.e., sunroof or something like that. I took it off the sunroof.

What about for the lights?

I thought you already had these gauges in the new car Steve. Are you doing the install yourself?

They were in the old car (which I sold this week). But I never installed them in the new car. I might get around to it today though.

Cool. Remember what you did (hint hint), one of these years I might need your help if I have a reason to.

I don't see why not? I have my electronic sweep FP and NOS gauges installed to the ignition. It just resweeps after starting. See legend below. If there is a reason, please explain why and maybe I will have to switch?

If the gauges do not have constant power (i.e., they loose power during start-up) they will not calibrate correctly.

No, they accurately recalibrate anytime the power cycles off-on. But if that's bad then I will switch mine.

The power during start-up is intermittent. They need to be connected to a power source that stays on once the key is turned to "ON"

Oh crap, really? Mine seems to work fine, but guess I'll have to change it later b4 something breaks.

But since everything else is connected to accessories, ON and start (or remoted by it), wouldn't anything electrical like the sunroof (acc. I think) be effected in the same way?

On the inner part of the fuse panel located above the parking break area, Acura provides 4 different connector points. They are numbered 1, 2, 3, and 5. Each one provides power under different conditions:
1 - Power on when key is accessory mode
2 - Power on when engine is on
3 - Power when Lights are on
5 - Power on all the time. Constant 12 volts.

In the picture below, the Red wire/spade connector provides power to my hardwired V1 - Only when engine is on. Hope this helps. BTW - were you able to find a 3 gauge pod?

No I was not able to get a 3-gauge pod... yet. I'm going to try and get one made this winter when i'll need the wideband installed once my winter project begins.

Will the "Accessory" connection give me power while the car is running?

Is that the panel under the dash where the SRS connectors are located? You said parking brake but the parking brake on our cars is on the center console.

Yes. Power both when accessory or on. i.e. - just like Radio Power.

If you can get your fabricator to do a batch, I'll take a grey one.

You're right. Just on the back side of the driver's side fuse panel.

I almost spilled the beans!

EDIT: I thought you were talking about my "winter project" not the 3-gauge pod

1 more thing about the gauge pods...

Most likely I will not be able to get the plastic painted to color match the factory interior. A better alternative is to get a hold of some fabric that is the same color and texture as the headliner and wrap both driver and passenger side A-Pillars to match

That sounds good. But let's back up to the Winter Project. You've got my curiousity up. Still SC or Turbo?

Check PM and I know a local shop that may be able to fabricate the pillar for me. I know they'll definitely be able to wrap them in fabric.

You ever thought about tucking the gauges out of plain view? Something that doesn't clue in to the fact that you have engine mods. Just thinking along your lines of "sleeperosity".

Yeah, like that Or I had even thought of using some of the dead space on the gauge cluster OR if you really wanna get creative (giving away my idea) how about get the Navi dash bezel and use the screen area to mount your gauges. Just a thought.
