Auto Insurance for the Type S

Not meaning to brag or jinx myself, but I just got my insurance renewal and my rate went down another $250/year. It's now less than my 2.2CL I bought back in '97. Allstate has a new "New Car Discount". Since they show that fewer claims are filed in the first few years of a new car, they now give a 10% additional discount the first year and 5% additional the second year. I've checked around and so far nobody can touch it.

Through USAA, I pay 240 a month. That includes my wife and I, both under 25, and full coverage on both cars. She drives a 240sx. As far as I know there is no one that gives better rates then USAA.

With my new rate, it would average $74/month-full coverage which I think is pretty damn good for this car.

I'm 25 and pay $881 every six months through Progressive. Which is $1762 a year and $147 a month. I don't think that is too bad for this part of the country.

I pay 1,100 a year total for full coverage on both my CL-S and my wife’s 91 Integra.
We are both 33.

I have Allstate and I haven’t heard of this discount unless my agent has it figured in already.

It just went into effect. You'll probably see it in your next policy renewal. It's on the front page at the bottom of the policy.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for that because my policy renews on 01/22.

I pay $71/month, full coverage through state farm for my cl-s. when I traded my '93 protege in, I was paying something like 60/month for *liability only*! such a deal...

my personal favorite, though, has to be the $20 a *year* I was paying to insure my '93 gsf400 streetbike (which is now enjoying life as an endurance racer in cmra)

USAA is definitely the best deal. I have been with them for 25yrs. They only insure Military Officers, Staff NCo,s FBI, CIA and their dependents. This limited group is why they are able to offer such great rates. I pay $640/yr. for full coverage. I get some of this back because they pay dividends on my payments.

I'm 24 with a clean driving record and pay around $95/month for full coverage with a $500 deductible. State Farm was by far the cheapest for me in this area.

I too have USAA (for the last 17 years) and my rates recently went up, and so did those of other USAA members I've spoken with. I pay $599 for 6 months with a $500 deductible and 100,000/50,000 coverage. Also, I was 'at fault' in an accident a year and a half ago.

I called Progressive for a quote yesterday...$1,082 for 6 month!

Two words….NO WAY

I read several articles including one in the NMA (National Motorists Assoc.) newsletter about how they provide RADAR & LASER equipment to police depts.
How is that for the gift that keeps on giving?

I’m not sure if all the insurance companies do this but supposedly GEICO does it a lot.
If someone proves me wrong, I will retract this post, but that is what I have heard.

Whoooaaahhhh. I must have misread this. You know of an insurance company that charges reasonable rates that pay more than replacement costs for a vehicle? In other words, if you by a vehicle for $35K in Jan 2001 and your car gets stolen in Jan 2004 (blue book is now $14K?) and upon producing a valid police report, they will cut you a check for $35K?

Come on......

You are entirely correct. In fact, years ago if they even found out that you even had a radar detector in your car, installed or otherwise, they would drop you immediately.

Not anymore.

BTW, cops and radar on the highway/roadway is a good thing. That's exactly why we are still around [alive] able to post.

I pay $427 every 6 mo. for 50k/100k/50k full coverage through state farm mutual. I have a spotless driving record and 22 (male). I am also the only driver listed on the car, because I own it, and would not dare to let someone else drive it.

didnt think there were that many USAA members around ---USAA has to be the best --operating under the assumption that military people and their family are more responsible than the population as a whole they are able to offer such incredible deals --i have a 99Cl and pay less than 800 a year with good coverage at the age of 25 -- got my car loan with them was preapproved before i even asked-- good company --shout out to the USAA members

Sorry Ken.... I gotta go with Shawn on this one...First they don't offer policies in NJ. Second, when I lived in California they always gaveme a bad time. They rated a 82 BMW633CSi as a performance car (0-60 in about 10 secs!) and doubled my premiums. I got in a lteer writing war with the President and he turned out to be a real jerk. California had a bill pending to lower insurance preiums and GEICO was the most vocal against it. They eventually lost and I got a rebate but I switched to Allstate. When I moved to NJ, Allstate was high as hell and I switched to Farmers and they recently got beaten out by AIG. So the moral is "shop around" they can differ by HUGE amounts of money. But IMHO GEICO Blows.

I just updated my policy to reflect my new Type S and through Progressive i'm paying $1050 per year here in MD. That's pretty damn good since it's a V6 two door. I was previously paying $992 for my Prelude SH (4 cyl). Can't complain about that.

Safe driving!

I am not sure what my rate is going to be in CL Type S, but I'll stick with Liberty Mutual. They just lowered by rate like 60% when I turned 25. I currently have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee (my wife's) and a 1998 BMW M3 and I'm paying $105 per month for both! The CL Type S should be even lower, as it's about 50% cheaper than the M3 and is not rated as a high-performance (though it should be).

What Type S is trying to say is that he is covered by ICBC in Canada and has purchased "Limited Depreciation" along with his insurance coverage. Kind of weird considering Type S is South of the border in Seattle and ICBC is very picky in out-of-province dealings.

Anyways, ICBC stands for Insurance Corporation of British Columbia. It's a crown corporation which means that it is wholly owned and operated by the BC provincial government(not a privatized company). This means that they are retarded when it comes to certain things and just so-so with others. If you want details, just let me know.

Limited Depreciation is an option that you can purchase(first 3 years upon buying a new car) with your insurance. It usually runs an extra $100-150 CAD per year. Basically, with this "Limited Depreciation", if your car is stolen and not recovered or involved in a "total loss" accident and unrepairable, ICBC will either replace it with a new car or give you the money that you initially paid for it. This may sound good, but there are headaches in dealing with ICBC(like I said, retarded). Regardless, here in Vancouver/BC, it is still a good idea to purchase it since there are a lot of crappy drivers and car theft is at an all-time high. Just in the past 2 months, I have heard about at least 10 civic coupes being stolen. And, a few months ago, about 20 cars were stolen from a mall parking lot all within minutes of each other.

Oh yeah, I pay about $1960 CAD(approx. $1300 USD) per year in insurance for my CL-S...and that does include the "Limited Depreciation". That's why whenever I let someone drive my car I always tell them "If you get into an accident, make sure you total my car" lol

Sometimes, it pays to be a Canadian, eh? lol

I live in NJ, and I've got Liberty Mutual..I pay $1900 a year and I'm 22. The funny thing is when I got a quote for a 2000 vette, it was only $1966. I use to pay only $1500 for my 2000 Maxima SE. The rep. told me that since the CL-s has a performance engine that is why my premium went up. I checked all the other insurance companies and Liberty Mutual was the lowest. This is being fully covered with a $250 deductible.

There are precious few perks for attaining "old fart" status, insurance cost is one. '01 CL-S $320/6 mos, $250 deductable, 100/300/100 w/ State Farm. It also helps that I haven't been caught breaking the law for years. This car could change that though.
