Attn: Jens, a question with Apexi Coilover
What does upper mount do? How does it affect the coilover? Snook has it with a used upper mount and I am think about it hard. Thanks.

Ok remember an important thing here our cars use double wishbone suspension so the strut is not used to set or correct camber.Although lowering our cars does affect camber and toe etc you use the supension arms to correct these changes. It is a common misconception that adjutable upper mounts can be used to correct camber but this is not true.Cars with strut type suspensions i.e.BMW many Nissans Toyota etc.Can use an adjustable upper strut/pillow mount to correct camber. The upper mount in all strut, coilover, etc setups are used to hold the spring inplace and provide a place for the spring cushion to live and also a means to fasten the strut to the strut tower of the car etc.
I have real coilovers in my Civic(APEX) and have had good results but there is one drawback, due to the fact that these coilovers use a main spring and a tender spring noise becomes an issue. The other good thing is that compression and rebound damping are adjustable but it does require alot of experimentation to get the setting right.
Depending on the type of upper mount snook is selling noise becomes a greater or lesser concern.Solid alloy mounts that place the strut shaft in a spherical bearing will allow great precision in damping but also transmit noise into the car.Even my coilovers despite the fact that they reused the rubber cushioned upper mount transmit lot's of noise.
As a rule real coilovers ,solid mounts are more for race cars where noise is not a concern,my advice to you would be to go drive a few cars so equipped and then take it from there.Jens
