Attn: 6 spd owners

What's up everyone? I'm new to these boards. I currently drive a 2003 Nissan Maxima 6-spd(Intake, headers, b-pipe), great powerful car, but my brother is getting his license soon and I will be giving it to him. I've been looking to buy a 2003 Acura CL Type S 6-spd these last two months, I've always loved these cars. Couple of days ago my sister told me one of her co-workers is selling an Aegean blue w/navi, 31,XXX miles on the ODO. My first question is $22,500 a good price? Secondly the 6-spd trans., I know the auto's have had tons of problem, but what about the six speeds(performance, reliability, durability)? Thank you, Greg

edit by mod Ron A: You're cruising for a ban. I just have to figure out how long.

I just figured it out. Three days.

Hey there... 22.5K is a tad high in my opinion... I would say neg. a bit and 21 or 20.5 would be a good deal w/ the nav opiton.. in regards to the tranny, havent seen any or heard anything in regards to the 6spd tranny issue. Performance wise, you can do the regular mods (headers, intake, pulleys, etc) or get turbo or SC. If you like more power IC kit is available through scalbert... An exhaust would only give you more whp if you choose the turbo or SC'd...

In short I have an auto.. and have kept an eye out for a good 6spd with low k in my area... If in 01 they did have a 6spd option I would have definitely bought that instead of the auto... Hope this helps...

Not sure about the asking price cause I've never considered ever selling mine. But what I can tell you is that I've got nearly 43k miles on mine which has been fully modded (CT i/h/sc/catback/springs/sways/strut, konis, 18" rims, Michelin PS PS2s, etc...) - 305 WHP. I've put about 27k miles on it running the S/C without any problems. There have been very few problems reported on the 6MT. I'd say go for it... It's a very fun car to drive and takes to modding especially well.

The lack of a Supercharger is actually the reason why I know longer want my Maxima, I mean don't get me wrong the car with my current mods(Injen CAI, Cattman headers, Cattman b-pipe) hauls major ass. But like I said I've always liked the CL's especially when they came out with the 6-spd's. But once I get get it I plan on modding it up just like yours. I'm going to see if the guy can go down to 21K, the car is in very good condition. BTW what kind of numbers are you putting down at the track with 305FWHP........Low 13's I'd imagine.

Of about 3000 6 speeds sold, only 800 had Navi, and only about 66 Blue Navi ones. I think his price is pretty close to demand depending on the local market.
I'm not a big modder but my 6 speed has been very reliable and fun. I like that they are kind of rare, you don't see them on every street.
Good luck.

I went to look at the car today, and let me tell you the car is in excellent condition. The car is flawless inside and out and also it's Bone Stock besides the 35% tint. As far as the price goes, the best he can do is 22 Grand. I'm going to think about this weekend, I'm also going to stop at a couple of Nearby Acura dealers and see if they have any 6-spd's on the lot.

That is actually a good price for the mileage and condition. I would jump on it!
Look in Kelly's Blue Book, I bet that's the book value.

22k is an excellent price given it's condition. Before paying for the car, see if you can get it checked out at an Acura dealer.

Can't tell you any track times cause I've never tracked the car, nor do I plan to. Based on other CLS 6MT that are NA, I've guessing I could do low 13s... high 12s would be very difficult because of traction issues.

Wow!! I did not realize how rare CL six speeds are, especially Aegean Blue w/navi.

Has the full 30k service been done? That's a pretty thorough check and if it has been the car is probably in pretty good shape.

Yeah I'm pretty anal with my cars and the seller seems to be just as anal. The guy did say all maintenance work is up to date, and that he has all the records to back it up. I found only a couple of nicks on the front bumper, but that was pretty much it. The interior was immaculate...Clean as hell!

I second that. I commute in San Francisco Bay Area traffic and I don't recall seeing 1 like mine in the last year. Pretty cool to have a rare car.

Same here... I haven't seen any 6MT anthracites like mine at all over the last 2 years of commuting in the BA.

Well guys I decided to "bite the bullet" and go for it. $22,000 was his take it or leave it offer, so I was like fuck it...good enough for me. It is a pristine condition so the price is justifiable. I will be giving him the check on Monday and taking delivery on that same day I also got to take it out for a spin, loved it! I gotta say Nissan and Honda make one of the best V6's in the biz. Any thanks for your help guys. Greg

BTW: Let me know if you guys know any Maxima owners(02-03) that would be interested in the following (Cattman headers, Cattman b-pipe, INJEN CAI, Teins) I'm parting out my Maxima and handing the keys to my brother. Thanks

Congrats on your new 6er. you won't regret it.

Thanks for the comments on my dash. It came out pretty good. It's not painted, it's an aftermarket brushed aluminum dash kit. I started to just do the center stack and console and leave the upper vent, Navi speedo area stock, but put all the pieces on. It looks good with the shifter and the alum door sills.

Where did you get the dash kit? It looks awesome.
