I will be attempting a high speed run soon. I am looking for a long, straight, flat, and hopefully unpatrolled area in California. Hopefully someone knows of a long deserted airfield or something - somewhere safe!

If I reach 150 MPH for about a few minutes I will be happy!

Just one of those things, you know... That way I know how fast I can go in this car.

For now, I'm running stock except K&N filter, Eibach springs, and 18" rims and tires.

Why will I do this? Just because...

Yup computer will cut you off at 147, and I doubt you will be able to hold that speed

 

You should be able to find plenty of room just over in Nevada. Take I15 into Vegas.

 

Yea come to NV we have all kinds of flat straight aways. Once a year they close one of the highways (I can't remember which one) and let people go balls out and it's all legal. When I lived in the BAy Area a freind of mine and I went on a road trip to visit a freind in ID. We had to go through NV, got out in the booneys and had the cruise set on 125 for over an hour.

 

With a strong tailwind you'll reach 150. Be safe.

 

Spend the $399 and go to one of those racing schools. Just last night there was a triple fatality caused by a guy in a Corvette that plowed into a Prelude at triple digit speed. Bottom line, you cant control the elements, and in a street car, have little equipment to avoid them. Save it for the track. My wife and kid are travelling up North and I'd hate to lose them to an experiment like this. Please rethink it. And yes, I've done this myself. Now that I have a racing license, I practice what I preach.

BTW Disclaimer: I 'imagined' I hit 181 in my Civic.. 9K RPMS in 5th gear

I think you should get new brakes before you do anything.

 

hwy 5 past the grapevine anywhere up to central california. I've pegged the speedo in my 3.0 CL and kept on going through the RPM range. I also hit 162 in my dads vette

 

I got it up to 35mph today on the way home from work.

 

i got her up to 145 on the beltway at 3am one night...

 

his 18's will allow him to pass 147, but the speedo won't reflect it.

 

Also, bring a book. 4th and 5th gear take a long time

If his rim/tire combo was purchased correctly he shouldn't have any speedo errors

 

I hit 145... as others have said, I dont' think the comptuer will let you hit 150.

 

147 then ur rev limiter kicks in and it keeps on hitting it until u let off the gas . I've done it a few times gives you a rush also did it when it was 3 in the morning on a long straight away where there were no cars on a 4 lane road with a median .

i hope you do this on an EMPTY road with NO ONE else anywhere near you.

and i would take the suggestion to go to driving/racing school. you shouln't be driving that fast if you don't really know what you are doing

150 is nothing. Astroboy and I did 145 on cruise control all the way from Toronto to Detroit and back.......... twice! haha.

 

this shot is only 140... but it was like 8 in the morning and i was still groggy

 

surprises me that cruise would activate at that speed

not to mention hitting 186+ in the porsche and on the gixxer many many times...

Make sure your tires are up for this, saw a car get a right front blow out today on the freeway, screwed up his car in the front.

 

i just read about that in an article in car and driver, some modified stock car took the gold with a speed of 207mph!

 

that race would be the silver state challenge. there is a website and i believe it's www.silverstatechallenge.com or something. the race starts near ely.
