Anyone without a CL tranny failure?
Anyone without a CL tranny failure?
Hi, my local infiniti/acura used car dealer has a couple of cl's, a 2001 & 2002 both auto trans, with about 33k miles. this guy is asking around 19 to 20k for these cars. I've read alot about the auto trans failures and I'm worried that I'll be stuck with a dead auto-tranny, I test drove one of them, shifts very smoothly etc..
How Worried should I be? Should I buy one? Or should I buy an RSX, I've been driving a 94' Integra for 10 years now NO PROBLEMS AT ALL-126000 miles, never even changed a light bulb yet! Also thinking of getting an 01 Integra as my replacement, Please help, as I will puchase in december!
Ps was offered a 2003 cl (new) for $26.000.00 2.9 financing blah, blah.

My 02 didn't have a problem in 18K miles. I traded it for a 6 speed though. See if it has been replaced yet. If not chances are it will fail, however, Acura does warranty the tarnny on 01-02 & some 03's for 100K miles.
go for it. get the 2003 if you can get a six speed and feel like shellin out the extra $$. or if not, don't worry about the tranny problems. the warranty on the tranny is extended to 100,000 miles so you wouldnt be stuck paying for it even if it did go. I've got a 2001 type s and have had no problems at all.
DONT GET AN RSX they are for 16 year old girls.

I'd say about 95% of Acura owners haven't had a failure (not necessarily 95% of the board members, but 95% of ALL Acura owners).
Every car has its problems, just make sure the car you're buying is in good shape and has a warranty and you'll be fine. If you buy one of the used CL's you'll be getting the 7yr/100k powertrain warranty anyway.. so there's even less to worry about. If you buy the new CL you'll be fine too, b/c only the very early production 2003's had a potential for problems.

Bought my CLS in July of 00. The car now has 60k miles all on the original transmission. I changed the OEM tranny fluid about a week ago. Yes, the fluid had 60k miles and 3 plus years on it! When the fluid came out it had changed color a bit, but didn't look bad at all.
There is a transmission thread located here = you should look at it. I had an 01 cls and the transmission went out at 30k miles. Was fine one day and went out the next!
Yes, there is the warranty protection, but I felt like the replacement transmission did not shift as crisply as the original - that would be my only complaint.
By the way, that is why I went for the 03 cls six speed!

1st tranny died at 61,000mi. 2nd tranny died at 95,000mi. I am now over 98,000mi. So far so good. "You pays your money and you takes your chances". If it is made by man, it can fail. No matter what you buy, things do go wrong. Buy what you like.
