Yeah I called and they said like 3 something and if you need 500 sqft or more there is a price brake to 2.99. Maybe if we did a huge group buy and got several garages worth we could get a better price

I bet it would look pimp tho!

yeah I'll probably use this stuff when my house is done too. Pricey, but I only want to do it once.

Scrib,

BEFORE you use that stuff, do yourself a HUGE favor and go to Autopia's website. Do a search on "garage floor" or even on the Rustoleum epoxy stuff.

I was looking into the same exact stuff last spring and the general consensus over there is that even the two part epoxy will eventually peel off, especially under the tires of your car.

A lot of the members over there have immaculate garages, so the discussion goes pretty deep on that forum. MUCH better information than you'll find here.

I wanted to look into concrete stain as well, but I even read a few negative things on Autopia about that too.....

Fock it.

I'm taking the shit back this weekend. Not worth trashing my floor and making it look like shit.

I have no doubt I can prep the floor properly, but even with the "good" stuff; like Griot's paint it's coming up. Nothing short of a "professional", several SEVERAL hundred dollar treatment seems to do the trick.

I'll stick with plain ol' cement or maybe find some decent tite if I decide I really want to do it right.

Yeah I think anything will peal up sooner or later. We just need to do a group buy on that other flooring :P

Well, I've changed my mind again... This time I'm going to keep the stuff and put it down.

My best buddy painted his garage, and I forgot all about it. So we spoke last night and he used the same shit I bought. It's been down for 8 months and is looking as good as the say he put it down.

He said he doesn't really care if a little comes up, you can always paint over it again. While he understands this isn't a permanent solution, the pros of the application definitely outweigh the cons.

So as Garth would say... "Game On."

We'll see how my mood is tomorrow on this.

Hahaha yeah I am sure it will be down and look good for a while. You could even lay the stuff down and then get 2 strips of that expensive tile stuff you showed me just for your tires so it will never peal up

I painted my floor with some stuff from home depot and it has come up on my tires so the next time I do the floor I am also goingto get something for the car to park on like either a bog mat with the edging so water will not run out from under the car and the paint wont peel up or get 2 strips of some sort of rubber mat to just cover the part where the tires go.

I was thinking about this thread the other night and came up with an interesting idea.

Why not use a combination of tile & paint.
Paint the entire floor, but use TILE for two strips from the door of each bay to where the front tire sits.
Obviously you would need to go a little wider & longer then where the tires on your current car sit in case you buy a larger/smaller vehicle in a few years.

That way you would only be using the expensive tile where you really need it.

Just an idea…..What do you think ???

Hahahah yeah Shawn beat ya to it :P

But really thats what I am going to do when I redo my floor. The paint will one day peal up no matter what...so why not do it right from the start and prevent the tires from even touching the paint.

Next thing you need is a parkzone kit so you park in the same spot every time They have them on ebay for like 15 bucks.

Sam's Club has a bunch of coo shit... And it's like 50% cheaper than anywhere else.

The people over at autopia.org say this stuff is WELL worth it.

Perhaps laying down two strips, one for the front tires and one for the rear would do the trick???

Hell... You could just get much smaller pieces of this stuff from Home Depot/Lowes/whatever... get four strips.... say 4'x9'... Get one for the front, one for the back... And have the wheels sit on that stuff while parked...

Hmmmmm....

Hmm thats some interesting looking stuff.

I wasnt saying 2 strips one for the front tires and one for the rear...I was saying one for the left side and one for the right side....that way your tires never come in contact with the paint

YUP..... That's what I was thinking too.
Two strips for each parking bay that are about 18FT long or so.

To me, making the long strips would looks rather odd...

There won't be any issues with just having like the Picasso I drew above. The hot tires would need to stand on the paint to make any impact.

I still say two strips from the door to the front tire would work best.

Yeah I was thinking doing long strips so the hot tire never hits the paint ever or while you turn the tire to get in the right spot it wont be on the paint. I dont think it would look to odd but I guess your right that the hot tire would have to sit on the paint to make it stick. I just think having the 2 long strips would mean that the paint will never come up

If you dont want long strips there is something (cant remember where I saw it) but you use it to park in the same spot...its yellow and has a bump on both the front and back sides so when you go over the first you know you can stop...you could get 4 of those and then the tires wont sit on the paint hot and you will park in the same spot every time

This right here is what I was talking about....you could get 4 of these and do what you want to do. I still agree with shawn tho...2 long ones from the garage door to as far as you are going to pull up would work best.

Problem with the strips or the above is you have to be dead balls on. The paint is made to be driven over and it's supposed to withstand hot tires sitting on it. Four strips in my garage, 20 feet long only and 2 feet wide would look silly, IMHO.

No???

I was looking at the expoxy paint to paint my garage floors and the folks at home depot told me the expoxy would peal up from the heat of the tires and suggested concrete stain.

I used the concrete stain and you don't have to worry about peeling. Looks good after two years and really holds dirt and grit levels down. Makes it easier to sweep out.

Yeah with the yellow thing you have to be dead on...but the strips you can make 2' wide and how ever long you need them to be. I dont think it would look to silly...you could use that expensive stuff and get it in what ever color you want and I think it would look ok.

The paint is made to withstand the hot tires...but it wont do it forever.

OK, here’s MY situation.

My detached garage is 24’ x 32’ and the two doors are on the narrow end.
I have (2) floor drains and the cement floor is sloped toward the drains.
The one under my car works great and it catches about 95% of the water when I wash.
My wife’s side however isn’t sloped correctly and some of it runs toward my car or the front of the garage where I have my workbench & tools.

I was thinking if I build up the area shown with tile and direct it toward the center drain it will work better.

What do you think ???

I'm still not feelin' the long strips... A couple 4'x9' vinyl mats at the front and back would work...

See I think long ones would look ok but its your garage so if you not feelin it then dont do it....you can do it like you want with the matts just under the parked tires and see how that goes. If the paint never comes up on the other parts then great....if not you can always touchup and try some longer ones. What ever you do you need to take pics and keep us updated

^^^ Love that...

I'm going to paint. But if I'm going to put anything else down, I don't know yet. Keep throwing out ideas though.

I'm also going to throw a feeler out over at autopia.org and see what those guys think.

You say paint...you mean that stuff you have already? Dont forget to add anti skid stuff if it doesnt already have it.

Does it snow where you are?
