Anyone supercharged with stock CL-S mufflers?

I haven't been able to find any CL-S (or CL) owners who are supercharged and still running the stock CL-S mufflers. I have a 2000 AV6 with a Comptech supercharger and right now I'm still running stock exhaust from the headers back to a set of CL-S mufflers.

I need to make the exhaust less restrictive, but I want to keep the CL-S mufflers. Has anyone had good results by enlarging the piping from the cat back to the mufflers? or maybe just back to the y-pipe?

It should be fine. CL-S mufflers are pretty free-flowing. Just enlarge the pipes.

Even though the pipes going to the back of the muffler are only about 2"? Should I go ahead and leave the y-pipe (1 7/8") the same and just change out the mid section?

I agree. The restriction is in the B-pipe - not the mufflers.

I would have the piping redone.

Depending on how loud I wanted it, I would get headers with a cat delete and run 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 piping to the rear and get rid of a lot of that back pressure.

But thats just me...

i had a custom 2.5" bpipe and stock muffs with my SC setup, wen i chnged it out to magnaflow race muffs the performance was much better. So if you want the most performance get sum diff muffs but if you can sacrifice a lil bit of power ull be fine with the CLS ones.

Haha...I wasn't doubting you. I just wanted some more input than what I was getting from ...and potentially from direct owners.

Thanks to everyone for their responses/help! I think I'm gonna go 2.5" from the cat back to the stock y-pipe and put a magnaflow muffler inline where the stock one was.

So any idea how much better from the muffler swap? Im debating between HKS mufflers or CLS, third time having some CLS mufflers but never put them on before.

Does anyone know a shop in Texas that'll do good work on the exhaust setup I want? The shops I've asked here in Austin are asking $370 at the cheapest, and this particular shop owner is somewhat of an a-hole so I'd rather not go to him even if he's offering to beat anyone's price.

I am about to remove the cat and replace it with a RT 7000 series cat. I need to call RT to make sure that is the one I want. I will replace all of the piping to the Y in the rear and the Y. I will be going with 2.25" or 2.5" piping. I am going to use the Magnaflow Y with 2.5" in and 2.25 outs. I think most of the restriction is in the cat, the pipe to the Y and the Y itself. We shall see.

^^ that sounds like the setup I'm aiming for exactly. Are you gonna stick with your OEM mufflers?

Im sure it was at least 10-15whp & alot more TQ because I went from running a 13.7 on stock muffler to have a neck and neck race with a 13.2 second maxima after my tranny swap I'll prolly smoke him

Thats the same setup I have. Minus the cat. I need to take that thing out but I havent had time to get a new one welded to flanges. Mine starts from the cat @ 2.5 all the way down to the Y and the Y tapers to 2.25 right b4 the outlet into the muffflers. And i have magnaflow racing mufflers which are 2.5 str8 thru. She breathes very nicely You'll love the setup and the sound. I may go bigger tho we shall see

I am going to do it all except I will be keeping the stock mufflers for the time being. I think they flow plenty themselves. I think they equate to two two inch pipes comming off one 2.5 when I am done and again I dont think they are the bottle neck in the system. If I dont get to 350-400 whp like I will be in a week I will swap the mufflers but more on that later.

I've talked to a guy in Houston who used to have an SC Accord and he was running a true dual system...so I'm considering that now.

Thats going to be quiet

Give it a shot, that wil force you to change out another weak point in the car, the j-pipe ,be it stock or a Comptech unit.

What about this setup...kind of a compromise to achieve flow and sound control...

Eliminate the j-pipe all together and replace it with a straight pipe coming off each header. Those 2 pipes go to a 2in-1out high flow cat. Then out the cat with a 2.5" to the rear axle with a resonator in line. Then a 2.5" in / 2.25" out y-pipe...and 2.25" pipes to the back of the mufflers.

Since the restriction will be mostly in the j-pipe, getting rid of it AND the stock cat will give me the free-flow that I want...and the single pipe from cat to y-pipe will make it overall a quieter system.

A "V8" dual exhaust with a cat as the x-pipe

Dont forget you got the SC to add torque dont want to screw it up too much
Especially when the bypass valve is kicking in during light crusing.

ya know...i never really inquired as to how the bypass valve on the blower works. i guess i'll PM you about that stuff. but yea that last exhaust setup sounds like the best route to me. maybe i'll go 2.25" mid pipe to keep from losing too much torque.

Thats the min, have you thought about an exhaust cutout after a high flow cat?

Yeah the mufflers, y-pipe and all, just have to make sure the headers and cat are free flowing enough to make it worth your while.
