Anyone noticed this weird feature in CL-S.....

It could be just me, but for the first time I noticed, when I brake while just clearing and going down a small hill, the rpm will suddenly jump by 300-500 rpm and then drop back..

Anyone noticed this? I will keep an eye on this and watch it....

Thanks.

Yep, mine does it too. The car is downshifting earlier so you don't have to brake harder. Mine will normally only do this on a downhill slope when over 30 mph.

They call it GRADE LOGIC. It's a real feature not just a fluke.

Mercury is correct. Our transmissions have grade logic so they will hold a lower gear going up a hill and downshift going down a hill.

If you're in the range of 140 mph and do this you'll get a similar effect. But that's due to the car catching a little air over the top of the hill.

Oh man--I almost forgot about grade logic!! Poor grade logic doesn't get any play here at all.

And with my type of driving, I seem to be experiencing this quite a bit. I didn't think it would happen on relatively flat ground, but even on small slopes/inclines, it feels like someone else is applying the brakes for me.

Torque converter clutch unlocking is another probability. Especially is it does happen on relatively flat ground.
