Anyone with a hitch and bike carrier combo?
Is anyone using a hitch and bike carrier combo for their CLS? My friend with a TL tried to do that on his, but the hitch was too deep for him, and no one made an 1 1/4 extension receiver for him. The rack was too close to his bumper. I'm not sure if that method will work for us. I know members mentioned that roof racks will leave scratches and marks on the roof. I'm desparately in need of a good method to haul my mountain bike around. I'm hoping someone does have the hitch/bike carrier receiver combo on their CL they can share some info on.

In June, after having the hitch installed on my month old CLS, the bike shop called and said the Saris rack I ordered wasn't available yet. For the next 6 weeks I kept getting the run-around from Saris as to when it would be available. Finally ordered a Rhode Gear instead; got it last week. It fit with plenty of bumper clearance, but the hold-down attachments are crap---bike sways back and forth and isn't stable, so it's going back and the search is on again.
If you're still needing an extension for the 1-1/4" hitch, there is one available from Sportworks.com
Last night I saw another CLS where I ride that had a hitch rack, so at least some of them fit. Went by too fast to tell if he had an extension or not.
