anyone have a bad tranny in a CL-P?

It seems like it's only type S's that are having the problems. I'd imagine it's due to the increase in HP. Anyone with a CL-P have their tranny replaced yet? Thanks.

I asked about this when I took my CL-P in for the 7500 mi. check last week. They said the tranny problems are limited to the CL-S. While perhaps the CL-P is not fast enough for some of you, I'm glad I have the CL-P. I just love my car!!

I don't belive this. CLS and CLP got exact same transmissions.
Increase in horse power only takes effect when you go above 3800RPM and actuator kicks in.
But if CLS owner drives his car like an old fart, there must be the same chances of CLS tranny go bad as in CLP.
There is simply no difference between CLP and CLS when driving very slow.
And some CLS owner had problems who are driving very slow like old farts, so your theory does not apply

It's not my "theory," it's only what I was told by Acura. Time will tell.

Well, if it makes you all (and myself of course) feel better I'm pushing 295 crank HP, and love to drive in SS mode most of the time.

Drag raced the car several times in 2001.

No trans problems whatsoever in 7400 miles.

You SURE they have the exact same transmissions? Like are the capacitor thingies and all the clutch plates and all that identical?

I belive someone looked at the serial numbers of CLP and CLS trannies, and they were identical..... So I am trusting that this means thery are exactly the same, but you never know ...

Helm's service manual shows no differentiation between Premium, and Type S transmissions. Should be exactly the same.

i'm expecting the trannies to be the same... but just know that the Type-S has a higher redline threshold...

Anyone have a bad tranny in a CL-P?

Below is a quote from the March 2001 issue of CAR AND DRIVER, in which they reviewed the upcoming 2002 TL-S. It indicates that Acura made some changes in the transmission to handle the Type S engine:

"With more power and torque from the engine, you'd probably need to beef up the transmission. Well, you would if you had the bulletproof reputation for durability that Acura has. Thus, the second-gear clutch-holding capacity was increased, and the torque converter was modified for higher rotational forces."

Guess they didn't beef it up enough. And there goes Acura's "bulletproof reputation for durability."

Hold on dont jump to conclusions yet. The article was for the 2002 TLS. We still have the old 2000 trannies. Who knows Acura might of finally realized that you cant cut corners everywhere. The supposed new tranny might be finally fixed.
