The upload res is very low at this moment and this was buried from some time back...

This is a 3.5L dyno vs. stock (one of the early ones):

Wow only 10hp more than just a stock CLS plus headers or am I reading that wrong? The jump is in the torque.

It looks like Headers and RES would match this Gain, CAI does not hurt either.

Yeah but the 3.5L upgrade includes headers and thus the increase over headers in only 10hp?

The most important things to consider when you don’t also change gear sets and rear end ratios:

1. Area under the curve -- the peak HP means very little outside of a CVT or close ratio gearbox.

2. Increase in torque and large area increase in torque (the area between the two curves is large.

If you want to figure out the percent increase in acceleration at every rpm, just compare the ratio of new torque to OEM torque.

As a note – look at the temps that the runs were done at – the CLS does much better in cold, dry air…

Here, here, and here (with a little nitrous).

Second one shows the difference between the I/H/E 3.2 and the 3.5 with I/H/E.

And in case anyone forgot, it did 101.5 in the traps. Check that out here (car #6697).

It's not the graph of my setup (I'm only have a 3.2L).

I would be rather tempted IF I was in a non-CARB state. IMO, California is brain damaged -- if you pull in a car for a smog inspection and it blows out pure oxygen, they would still flunk it if the mods didn't all have CARB stickers (kit cars and loopholes excepted).

Tranny is the only concern: I'd hope it wasn't a "flaky" one (Tarot cards session probably required) ... and I'd probably grab Scalbert’s tranny cooler install notes!)

RAdams I don't mean to correct you but the 2nd & 3rd dyno charts are mine.

The 2nd chart was when Doug (syncivic) dynoed my car with I/H/E (231 hp/192 lb/ft torque) then with I/H/E + RES (241 hp/204 lb/ft torque). The 3rd chart was with I/H/E, RES plus a 55 shot of nitrous (282 hp/249 lb/ft torque)

I know you might want proof so I just took some digital pictures of the charts that Doug (syncivic) gave to me.
HERE & HERE

No hard feelings

COb, the m3 would be a better choice b/c it comes w/ a factory warranty and obvious better performance credentials. But,I'm pretty certain Rick Case places a warranty on this install as long as u have their dlrshp service the car. Maybe this upgrade doesn't make much sense on a auto CL-S, but it would make nice sense on a 6speed CL-S; ($33.5K (CL-S 6speed w/nav)+5K (3.5L upgrade)~39K) for a car that can run mid 13s consistently isn't bad at all considering that a new M3 goes over $50K nowadays.

Also, 1/2 the thrill of owning such a modded car is that, most people don't think ur that fast lol

I just think its stupid. Buy a car that you will never ever get your money out of. I think its a great idea, but who the hell cars about a 3.5? Not in resale. M3, who wouldnt want one and also they have great resale value.

The best I can do is have you click here for the slideshow & when the page opens up click the stop button below the orange border. Then you can use the forward arrow below the orange border to scroll through each picture.

Hey whast up COb. i agree w/u, financially it isn't sound to spend money on ones car b/c u'll nvr get the return that equals the amt. u put in. Personally, I agree w/ u, drive th CL-S for 3-4 yrs, take that 5 grand and put in a variable Interest Rate account and 4 yrs from now u'll have a nice downpayment for an m3

p.s. Have u started ur Meguairs project yet? How did it come out? I applied polish and wax and its really shiny now

I ordered from them last fri night and it has YET to show up to my door. I came home to Athens this weekend and I am really getting pissed. I called yesterday and they said they were shipping it out next day air in order to meet the scheduled time for today. Guess what? ITS NOT HERE. Time to call and bitch again tomorrow.
BTW, got my baby back today after the windshield incident. THANK GOD, I missed it real real bad. Ill post pics as soon as I get the process done on Sunday or so.

Cob, speaking of bro, they have the new factory turbo neon that is factory est. to run 0-60 in 5.9 sec They said they will also have factory performance packages that would reduce 0-60 times by a 1/2 sec

Also, good to see that u got ur car back And good luck w/it and I hope no other unfort. things happen 2u and the car. Also, they don't sell Meguairs products by u at all, not even in the auto parts stores?

Thanks. No, they dont sell it. Since I use their professional stuff, they dont sell it anywhere that I have ever seen. Gold Class they sell everywhere and is very good for the money.

USED CAR??? I meant for people to save 5g MORE and buy a new M3. The M3 I built just now online the same way as my CL is equipped is $49230. Ok, so 10g more. The thing is you will never get that 10g more that you spent on the 3.5 over the 3.2 CL when you try to sell it. As soon as you buy that car off the lot, you basically drop down to the same amount as what a normal CL does. No one in their right mind would buy a used CL 3.5 for 30g. Its crazy.
BTW, if everyone had to buy their coupe now, would you still have gotten the CL if you would have known about the problems? Id still pick the CL if I could get an 02, still not crazy about the 03 yet. Saw one yesterday for the first time in person and theyre growing on me, but I still think the 02 looks better.

$53,145 is what I got.. and that's w/o Navi... not only that, but add in tax and the $5k or so markup that the local BMW dealers are adding and you're looking at low $60k for an M3. Personally... I'd love an M3 over a 3.5L CL/TL.... but for $37k (my car was $32k OTD) it would be a pretty good deal. I'm not saying that I would spend the money on it myself, however, I can see why others would.....

If you order the car there will be no markup. The one I built didnt have navi either, I think its a waste. Could be a good idea, but I dont want it or need it. Navi comes down to the owner. Although I thing onstar is a great feature.
