i was thinking on actually doing that on my nav screen (since it's already modified)

what i was going to do is to have a small computer built in my trunk and use the nav screen as the monitor.

i basically just wanted to be able to use this small computer as an MP3 player AND to have a DVD rom to watch movies on instead of using my PS2.

now that i saw this stuff about the ODBII programs, it would be cool to also purchase that program and run it off the same little computer that i'm going to build

would be pretty cool.

I'll have a constant hardwired OBDII up and running in about 2 weeks.

You can download the program for free but it doesn't do too much good without the adapter which plugs into the OBDII connector. That you have to buy...

If I remember correctly, the guy I bought the software & hardware from won't just let you buy the adapter(for obvious reasons). You have to buy it as a bundle... and I think I paid like $142 for the package. Scalbert, it looks like we both have the same software. Is this how you recall it?

I picked it up at http://www.obd-2.com/

I guess, he is giving away the software so you will buy the connector with IF.

Now, I have a Win CE machine and I would love to have port of his software on that machine....

I bought it for $122 + shipping from the programmer, Alex Pepper, which is a bargain IMO. For my old Typhoon it was $500 to do basically the same thing. With the GTP it was near $200. So $120 to read and reset DTCs is a bargain is you already own a laptop. Add to that the ability to log data is invaluable...

Okay.. I emailed Alex Pepper... A WinCE version will be available withinh 6 months... Free download too.. At that time... I will dedeciate that my Sharp Mobilion to that be an OBD-II server... I will custom make a holding arm for the sharp and a neat wiring to the OBD-II connector... It would be cool... I thought about using the NAV LCD... but what the heck... the Sharp has 640x480 9.5" LCD!

Here is the bad boy:

I know it tests the system and check all diagnostics.

My question is: can I adjust particular specification for this program/unit. I mean, can I adjust it so that i am running rich (for nos) or adjust it to run lean (better mpg)? If no, is there a unit that will allow me to do this?

to answer your question...

you can reset codes with the program, but can not override the ecu functions.

to mess with the fuel curve etc. you would either need a stand-alone or a VAFC from greddy.

Any instruction on how to make the OBD II cable connector yourself? I would like to save some money and make one myself. There is only 5 wires connecting to the connector behind hte dash on my 97 2.2CL. Mantis23, think you can use an continuity meter and let me know which pin go to which pins on the serial connector? Thanks.

Yeah, would be interested in that... I'd only want to hook it up maybe once just outta curiousity. Definitely not something I'd hardwire although I guess if someone was extremely crafty, they could replace the entire dash

Nevermind, I am making my own cable with instructions found at http://www.planetfall.com/~jeff/obdii/. I will only be using every once and a while for diagnostics and such.
