If you do buy it please replace that chopped up rear emblem. I wonder what other tacky mods were done.

I've learned from experience to NEVER buy a car that has exhaust & poorly modified items. Those items = beat car.

Its also not running the correct size tires on it. Theyre 245-40/17s, 2.8% off at 60mph.

Its got an aftermarket radio in it and judging by the wiring under the hood, its probably a hack job.

Im also trying to figure out what that intake came off of because it doesnt look like it was meant for the CL judging by the ~5" coupler and the chrome AutoZone filter.

I wouldnt buy it, and thats before seeing that theyre asking $8k for it.

Alright, since this thread has turned into more of a "should I buy it, or should I not", I'll post the entire situation and findings.

I currently have a 99 Accord V6. The trans is starting to slip in first, which is a sign of tranny failure. While looking for a cl-s trans in my local listings, I came across this cl-s. I went and looked at the car and it seemed to be in fairly decent condition.

The car no longer has the tl-s rims on it, because they were bent, thus reducing the price to 7500. After talking them down and getting an estimate on my accord, I worked a deal of my car + 2500-2800 dollars.

A new automatic trans my accord is 3500 for install. A 6 Speed swap is 4500 for install. My view was by buying this car, I get a better engine, a 6 spd trans, less mileage, and a newer car.

Of course however, Im not sure of what the current problems with the car could be. I ran a carfax, and it has a very clean history from what I can tell (though im aware not everything is reported to carfax). Its due for a timing belt and water pump, but im not sure if its been done or not yet, I forgot to check.

I should be taking it to my mechanic sometime this week to start digging and get a much more in-depth look at what Im dealing with.

Here's the actual ad:

And bent wheels? Its quite hard to bend wheels, combined with the mods, I would look for another.

I would rather get a 100% stock CL then this car. Think of the mods as actually lowering the value of the car.

Thanks for all the input!

I already set up a date to take it to my shop and tear into it tomorrow.

Im aware of the tacky mods and everything, but I guess I've grown somewhat attached, not good I know. My plan is to see what really going on with it. If I see problems, cheap parts, etc. then im going to stay as far away from the car as I can. But I feel as if it wouldn't hurt to check.

Haha, well I guess I just don't see what you guys are seeing.

I see things like..chopped Acura emblem, painted front grille, single exhaust, and a SRI. But I guess im not understanding how that amounts to a bad car?

Outside of those things, it seems very clean. No knocks, no smoke, no leaks, etc. I mean, its due for a timing belt and water pump, but that's not really a problem for me.

Not trying to offend anyone, just trying to understand I suppose.

Generally when you see mods done properly, you think of someone that cares for their car.

The flipside is when you see hackjob mods and you wonder what else could have been done.

If you think its a solid car, then go for it. But if theres a problem with it, dont say we didnt warn you.

Civic is right. Look at the rides of the members on here and see what type of mods they sport or how their car looks. You know we take good care of our rides.

No one knows CLs like us and if we say pass then we generally know what we are talking about. You have been warned, but buy at your own risk. If he liked his car and had money to take of his ride then he wouldnt put those mods on. Chances are prev. owner just wanted to go fast or sound fast for as cheap as possible which usually means that he raced/abused it and didnt care about reliability. He knew he was going to ditch it when it hit 100k and doesnt care what happens to it now. I'll tell you that I want my car to last till the wheels fall off and I would never do those mods to my car.

BTW, that 105k service will cost you at least another 500 dollars. Another thing to keep in mind.

x2

If youre dead set on the price, get them to drop the price to $6800 and call it a deal.

Well if I were to make the deal, it would be for my accord and $2500-3000. I wouldn't go over 3000

If it checks out mechanically, Tacky mods can be fixed. Really for $3K your getting into a better newer car. I really can't see you being able to get anything else better for your $.

Tacky mods don't mean jack IMHO. If the car meets your needs & expectations, & checks out as sound I'd go for it.

Thank you man, I appreciate it.

I also stopped by again today to see the extent of the of some things. The single pipe, is not what it appears. It has the stock original cat and piping all the way back to where to Y-pipe would be, and a magnaflow canister has been welded on.

I'll let you guys know what I find tomorrow when I get it to the shop.

From my experience when you let your emotions get in the way while purchasing a vehicle we can warn you but your not going to listen anyway. I 100% agree with all the guys that said take a pass on this car I know I would but your going to do what you want to do anyway so good luck.

I mean, It all comes down to how it looks mechanically. If its looks good, then I can't see why I wouldn't buy it...

If it looks bad, then theres no doubt in my mind that'd I pass on it.

I feel like thats good logic to proceed by.

basically whenever that whell gets moved to the front axle duting rotations, i get an EVER so SLIGHT shimmy, but even then i have to be going at least like 80 though
