anyone ever raced a cop?

Hi, i was driving and thinking at the same time, what if the guy i was racing was a cop, anyone ever raced someone that was an off duty cop? would they do anything if they're off the clock?

Unless they are ina marked car they really dont have much they can do... They can call you in, but unless you are acting like an idiot long enough for his buddy to show up you are fine.

I have toasted several cops on their to/from work. They drive like assholes and deserve to be treated in that matter.

one time when i was sixteen, i was driving my pops truck, and i told my buddy i was gonna beat this cop off the line. the light goes green, i pin it, and subsequently get pulled over for having a towball in front of my rear license plate. DO NOT BEAT COPS OFF THE LINE.

Here in NY an off duty cop can't pull you over for a violation. I've raced a Crown Vic once but i don't think it was a cop.

Funny this came up.
I was going into my office this morning. I wasn't in a hurry I decided to take local streets. This cop was in a bright red firebird conv. He had his uniform on & the top down. We were at a light. I drove normally. I guess he heard the Comptechs, at the next light he honked at me, I rolled down my window, & he says what kinda power that thing have. I smiled & said enough for me. He grined, & said when the light changes try to catch up. I told him no, then he said he wouldn't do anything to me cause there was no traffic. So what's a guy to do..... At the green we pulled off. We were dead even till about 65 when we shut it down. He had an auto. He honked at me as he was turning at the next light.

that is awesome, great story. hey, does anybody know what they do to cop cars to make it faster, i mean the ford and chevy ones, not camaro.

and one time when i made right turn, i gunned my car with an intake, WOT, real loud, then, i saw this cop car do a u-turn, and i was like, oh shit, but i maintain the speed limit seeing that cop and then i made a left turn, he didn't pursue. imagine if i didn't see that cop, oops, a speeding ticket. good thing i didn't sqeal the tires, he coulda given me a ticket for that.

OKay, I was coming down rt93 and playing with a SE-R which I was impressed with as far as 50-80mph. She got in front of me due to traffic riskiness....her car was smaller than me! Eventailly I pulled behind her and wondered why she stopped playing. So, when I got the chance I hammered it and went. I ended up next to that car in front of the b!tch that I was playing with that happened to be an unmarked car. MAybe since it was Dec 26th, he let me go, I slowed down and wne t behind the SE-R. I shruggeded and acted like there was no problem. I was counting my lucky stars since I was passing at 90mph+. She smoked some crack or something and then went from high speed lane to low speed...the undercover cop followed and pulled her over. :P

I am sure he was willing to let a BIT of speeding go by if he was off duty but swinging 4 lanes was bad. :P

Loved it. =phew=

This is hearsay, but driving down the 405 frwy from LA to San Diego my friend was doing about 85. A cop comes up behind him then pull in front of him. The cop waves to my friend to follow him, he said they were doing about 100mph all the way to San Diego.
BS? Probably, don't know fo sure.

Theres a cop that lives in my complex, with a built Civic SI. Always see him racing other people. We got to talking one time, and i asked him if he wrote people tickets for racing, when he was on duty. He said, "no, cuz then i wouldnt be practicing what i preach." he said he usually gives me a verbal warning, then lets em go.

Was doing a clean 95 on 101 a while back, when i look up in the mirror to see a sherriff tailgating me. I hadn't been looking since I hadn't changed lanes, what a mistake. I slyly changed lanes over to the right, and the dude blew by me without a look.
What a pimp.

I remember that one, mainly because it was me who was racing the cop. For those of you that missed the story, here it is: Getting on a freeway entrance ramp at a light this POS sedan floors it, so, of course, I do the same. To make a long story short, I take off and he stays on my tail well up over 100. This goes on for like 10 miles. I lose him, then slow down a bit. As I'm exiting onto another freeway, there he is again. I floor it, took the ramp at like 80, he's right on my ass. I get onto the other highway and right back to 120. Well, that's when those little blue lights appeared out of nowhere! The guy was an undercover cop! (I should have known that a POS dodge keeping up with a CLS had to be a cop.) I quick check my speed, then immediately think of who I'm going to call for bail money. He comes up to my car and all he said was "You have GOT to be kidding!" For the first time in my life, I had nothing to say. I just sat there as he read me the riot act, waiting to hear those three words everyone fears the most. You know, "you're under arrest." Anyway, by some strange miracle, he let me go, and I haven't tried anything similar since. That was why the title of the thread was "know your opponent."

A final warning to all - undercover cops are driving hooked up Civics. When they are sitting at a light and you take off to race them, you get busted! (boys and girls, can you say entrapment?)

Absolutely, but unfortunately the burden of proof is yours. (Think of the drug/prostitution stings on "Cops") You know that old saying, "it takes a crook to catch one".
