Any known issues with the Nav option in '03?

I just tried searching on this top, but nothing was returned. Not sure if I was searching wrong, or whether the site update tweaked the search function. Either way, as I indicated on an earlier post, I'm getting ready to purchase an '03 CL-S.

Is there any gotchas on the Nav system? Like if it stops working, the car is rendered useless? Or is it a fairly durable piece of technology? Does the Nav screen also control the functions for the a/c? And do you guys that have Nav put anything over the screen itself - like the thin plastic some people put on their Blackberry's?

I like the idea of the built in Nav (even though I recently got a killer deal on a Garmin 680 from Costco for my wife's car), but don't want any 'surprises' down the road.

Thanks in advance,

Nothing wrong with it other than it's 8-year-old technology. Don't expect too much from it. Might consider upgrading the DVD to a more recent version if it already hasn't been.

Does the new DVD have to come from the dealer? And if so, any ideas on how much it costs?

The nav is a basic system. Noting much goes wrong. If it did go out though you wouldn't have AC/heat directional control or fan speed control. Those functions are in the unit. The auto function & temp can still be controlled however from the dash.

Oh and don't expect the Onstar unit to work. I believe that those 03' models have the old analog system in them. Good luck with your purchase, and remember to post some pics.

I was used to my Garmin NAV when I got my 01 and really hated the OEM unit (it is not that bad) I finally (yesterday) got my Garmin squared away and am even more in love with the car than I was before.
