Any difference using detergeant gas?
with all the controversey surrounding gas prices, i got thinking, and i'm wondering if our cars benefit using detergeant gasoline versus non-detergeant 93 octane gas. if i recall correctly, 93 octane gas burns cleaner at higher temps, therefore less deposits are likely...i mean, u got Mobil Super+, Amoco Ultimate, and Sunoco Ultra 94 as good examples. but if i can pay 5-10 cents less per gallon to get non-detergeant gas at the local Coastal or Hess, would it b to our advantage to do so?? what exactly does detergeant gasoline contribute to already cleaner burning octane??

I think every once in awhile, it's okay. But the owner's manual specifically recommends (not requires) that you use 91 with detergents. This is due to the high compression. Any deposits left can hurt seriously hurt performance and mileage.

My very first job was a marketing rep for a major oil company and we were well trained in additives and lubes. It is critical to use a good detergent gasoline to keep the engines running clean. Otherwise, deposits will build up within the engine. Just about all major brands have detergents in both premium and regular gasoline. Additives are not just in the premiums.
