Any 6spd tranny problems???

Hi All,

I am TL-P owner (usually post on acura-tl.com) who is sick of blown trannies (read my post below). I was wondering if anyone knows of any reported 6spd tranny failures on the CL-S cars. I love my TL but no longer feel like going through the tranny issues (I've blown two THIS WEEK and this morning, I nearly crashed the car at 75mph from a 5th to 2nd spontaneous shift).

Any help would be appreciated!!!

None at all provided the individual knows how to drive a manual. It is slick and does the car much better justice. IMO, it should be available for the TL-S!!!

I don’t believe I have heard of any 6-Speed Tranny failures yet.
The only problem I remember reading about here are a few members complaining of “grinding” or “rough shifting” between the gears.
I haven’t noticed either of these problems on mine.

No complaints, but that would describe me, grinding between the gears. It is a user error and not a vehicle issue. Going between my wife's Bimmer with a higher take-up than the CL causes me to be too much out on the clutch when I move the lever.

Yea, I guess that IS one problem I’m seeing too.

After further review I HAVE found a problem with my Tranny.
It’s causing unbelievably HIGH wear on my front tires for some reason.
Must be because my tires are doing too much of THIS at every stop sign.

With 2500 miles on the OD I say I have about 60% tread life left!!!

VERY true... tirespin is incvredible on this thing through 1st and 2nd gears... last night I raced eric and spun through 1st and 2nd and yet still managed to pull on him for a win in 3rd... I can't imagine what I'd have done if I could get traction through 1st and 2nd... BTW sidemarker's got i/h/e 5speedAT CLS... I didn't think I'd hang...

All the same, I'd rather buy tires than continue to blow trannies!!! Besides, the stock ones suck even on my TLP (replaced with P7000SS).

This thread explores first gear pop-outs, which I have not experienced since ~1800 miles (now at 3800).

Ground my 1-2 shift once as I let the clutch pedal up a skosh too soon. Spinning in first gear is a problem, especially with headers. So horrible!

Thanks for the help guys. You have all been very helpful (and funny). I guess I will be getting a CL-S 6spd (and three sets of P7000SS Z rated tires for the first 10,000 miles).

Appreciated,
