Another WRX Kill....

Smart-ass was playing with me on the freeway, so we exited and started from like 5mph:

1st gear... even (I spin too much)
2nd gear... 1.5 cars ahead
3rd gear... 6 cars ahead

I got back onto the freeway and went home It looked new and I assume stock.

I don't know what that guy was thinking!! I wouldn't even dream of taking on a CL-S on the freeway
Espeacially with that third gear you guys have...its a killer!! Even from a roll, it would be bad. You guys have more torque and more horsepower stock to stock. Even a modded WRX vs. a stock CL-S will have a hard time. Was he being a punk or what to you on the freeway?

He wasn't being a punk at all... just a little obnoxious by revving... slowing... revving... slowing... you get the picture.

I don't know about the STI... 3rd might be a good match...he might take me I think... STI's run like 103mph?

your joking about a stock cls beating a modded wrx right? a stock cls would have a hard time with a "stock" wrx. more power in the cls yes, more torque yes, more weight yes, fwd yes... the 1/8 belongs to the wrx in this matchup.

now allmotor should be able to beat most cars on the road... that isnt a normal cls so im not surprised. from a stop the cls cant get traction and doesnt have enough power till 4k or so to hang with a wrx so by that time your behind... if we go above 80, 90 the 6 cylindars just walk but a modded wrx should still be able to accelerate past then... and after 110, 115, the 4 cylinder shows its weakness and the cl shows its weakness, 4th gear!

even from a roll the wrx is a worthy competitor. stock it accelerates at low speeds faster than the cls does.

i've known that guy since he was 10. we used to take family trips together. the guy i bought my cl-s from now has a wrx, he hangs out w/ the local wrx crew along w/ Jeff Perrin. this is all in Portland, Or.

i was surprised to find out it was him. small world.

i guess you could call him a certified wrx guru.

p.s. he has a STI motor in his car. along w/ a couple others in the group

WOW!! Thats awesome that you know that guy! I would of used his products (they come highly recommended), but the guy I know where I'm at gets HKS stuff for a really good price. I didn't know that they were up in Portland. Thats also pretty cool that he has the STi motor in his car. That is what the guy I know here is doing with his 02 WRX. He got the 2.5L with some extra head work done and a Greddy turbo. He also has the STi six speed tranny. He really knows what he is doing with that car...kinda like the allmotor guy. Really good at modding his own car. Wish I knew the Perrin guy.

Hey Vinny, I'm not pissed or anything. I usually give people the benifit of the doubt. There are reasons I talk like that. One is, friend of mine I've none for a long time has a CL-S and I know he reads what I write on here and we go back and forth about each others cars. I'll say negative things about his car, too, but I'm just joking as he will say things about my car. I really do like the CL's, but I can't afford one . Anyway, its all cool.

Matt, does your friend have a black sedan with the fmic?? That guys destroyed me on HWY26, and left me eating his black smoke coming out of his exhaust.... Good kill by him... ..

Always a pleasure getting killed by a heavily modded turbo car!

Actually 4th gear sucks in our car... this is really where we lose races!! Shifting from redline in 3rd puts us at around 5100 RPM in 4th... the next 800-900 RPM really sucks and its only after 6000RPM that the car really pulls.... If the redline was higher or the gearing was shorter (which is really should be cuz we have a 6th gear)... we'd be running much quicker.

Yeah, Allmotor is different cause the WRX is hella quick stock; it stalls about 105mph like the CL-S does. Difference being it's turbo not the 2 overdrive gears.

I've ran a modded WRX 2 times and it was not pretty at all...

If I were you, I would go and challenge cars that give you more challenge. Great job at killing 14s car with 13s car!

What are your mods? ran at the track yet?

hey do you 6 speeders have to shift into 4th for the 1/4?????im looking for a way to finish at the top of third make the gearing more like as if the car were going 110mph at the end instead of 102 i wonder if just tire diameter is enough...anyone wanna do the math...if i went to 225/45/17 from 235/45 and if i went to 225/50/16 ? if 215/50/17 goes to approx. 133 mph at the top of third how is that changed by the above mentioned diameters

the higher gear ratio will slow you down off the line.

were you staying in 3rd on your sub 14 second runs?

i noticed on my 14.1x runs, i'm just about at redline going through the traps. that was on 235/40-17's.

I spend about 400RPM in 4th gear down 1/4-mile. I hope to end the 1/4 mile at the END of 4th gear... my car only makes good power from 6K to 7.2K RPMS.

from a stop the wrx will usually get us 0-60/65ish. I was at my friends door up to 60 and that was the best i've done... but then i always start to pull right back and come ahead by about 1 car at the 1/4 mile mark. from a 50-70 mph roll i've never lost to a wrx, basic mods or stock

Good kill!
I want a chance at racing some of the new WRX owners, esp the STI owners. Oh and you CL-S owners too A few of them are a little too over confident with their cars.
