Add me to the statistics of failed transmissions. I have a 2001 Types-S and just this past week, signs of my transmission failing have been frequent. First, when changing from 2nd to 3rd the rpms would run very high and not switch. Also while driving, my car would jerk forward extremely hard like I was rear-ended. Just a few hours ago, the transmission completely gave out. It will not shift higher than first and when put in reverse it completely does nothing but rev the engine. I thought I was one of the lucky ones that wouldn't have the problem of going through this but I guess not. On the other hand I was lucky enough to be arriving at my friends house when it happened. My car is currently sitting in front of her house because all dealerships are closed. I live in North Hollywood, California and have just hit a little over 98,000 miles. If anyone who has encountered this problem please describe what they had to do to get their car repaired under the warranty, I would really appreciate it. Will Keyes Acura (the closest dealership to me) take care of it? Will they give me a loaner car? How long am I expected to be without a car? Will I get reimbursed for the towing costs, etc. What makes me angry is that I just had my 90k service done not to long ago and they did not mention or recognize any issue. I don't really post too much so any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Mine just went as well, though luckily I was able to drive the car to the dealership to have it checked out. They gave me a Hertz rental the first day until they determined it was the tranny, then they hooked me up with an 07 TL, which I'm still driving. They told me about a week to have my car back and when I dropped it off I just said it seems like the transmission is slipping. They told me the next day that it was an internal failure and they were replacing it under warranty from Honda. So it was very pain free. As far as the towing expenses, not sure, but if you have AAA then I'd use them since it should be covered. Good luck. Mine had 77k on it btw when the tranny went.

We have an 04 MDX as well and just turned 50K miles tonight. No signs of transmission issues though. She has been rock solid since December 2003. I thought there was a trans-redesign for 03 and up MDX's?
Anyway, these premature transmission issues suck. But as long as the manufacturer takes care of the problem...

Transmission Update
As I posted earlier, my transmission died last Friday. I had my car towed to Keyes Acura in Van Nuys, California for free thanks to my girlfriend's AAA card and Ed treated me very well. Some interesting information that he told me was that even if I had over 300k miles on the car, as long as the transmission hasn't been replaced before, it would still be covered under warranty. Now that it is being fixed, when I get it back the transmission will have a 12k/12 month warranty. Should I consider getting an extended warranty or get rid of the car before it gives me more problems? He also gave me a loaner car. I tested my luck and asked for an NSX but he jokingly said they just lent the last one out. Instead, I got a TSX with navigation. In my personal opinion, I love my CL Type-S and prefer it over the TSX loaner. The cabin of my CL feels more like a cockpit and my CL feels more responsive to road conditions. To sum things up, I should get my car in about a week and if you live in So. Cal and have a transmission problem, go to Keyes Acura in Van Nuys and asked for Ed. He'll take care of you and maybe this time they'll have an NSX to loan out. I'll keep everyone updated.

Nice, glad to hear everything is working out for you. I'm wondering the same about mine, once I get it back, should I just hope the tranny keeps up for the remaining life of the car or should I consider getting rid of it since it still has decently low miles and is in great condition, plus has a brand new tranny as a selling point. Damn, too much to think about.
If I did sell I'd definitely be looking for a CL-S6.

I drove around the corner and it would not come out of first then bucked appears to have went into a higher gear. It is siting @ the dealership as I speak with 99,430 mile whoaaaaa luckily!!!!!!! made before teh warranty ran out.

Ed at Keyes Acura told me that as long as you are on your first transmission, it doesn't matter how many miles you have on the car and it will still be covered. After the replacement, Acura covers it for 12k miles or 12 months. Whichever comes first.
