alternator belt shredded

Hey Guys,
I'm driving down the freeway this afternoon and all of a sudden my guaqe panel went dead, everything, speedo, tach, etc. Shortly after this, my car shut down. Beautiful, I am in the middle lane running about 70mph and then nothing. With my wife and another motorists help we manage to get it pushed to the side of the road. I open the hood to find fuzzy hair like fibers all along the left side. WTF?? I dig around a bit and discover that my alternator belt has disintegrated. 18K miles and gone. After twenty minutes of holding for Acura Care we get them to organize a tow to the nearest Acura dealer. Then I pay $120 for a taxi ride home. Ouch!!! We'll see what this dealer has to say tomorrow.

dude, sorry to hear about that belt, Esp. on the interstate liek that. I have had
that experience to many times in previous
cars. Sometimes the pulleys become lose and become unaligned which shreads them, but I think in your case it's the dry heat and moisture that killed it. After they replace your belts, spay a little "belt dressing" on them every so often. You can find this stuff in any automotive store. Werks very well and prolongs the belt life!

18k miles on a new car / belt is tells me something is wrong. They should last twice that.

they should last between 50k-75 miles! i think either something got in there to f*ck up the belt or like the previous post, something got misaligned. the car died but the alternator was not providing the needed power back to the battery due to the broken belt. everything is still under warranty so its not that bad......just a lil'
