Almost killed today, NO JOKE!

Damn Ford F-150 4x4 cuts me off and SLAMS on his breaks and causes this! We were both traveling east on 316 (For those who live in Atl) and he decides to ride my bumper until he got a chance to past me. I’m already doing 15-20 over the speed limit but I guess that’s just not fast enough for him. The right lane clears up so he sees his chance to be an ass and passes me and cuts right in front of my car leaving no room between my front and his rear but that wasn’t enough. He than takes it upon himself to teach me a lesson for going so slow and literally slams on his breaks. I didn’t rear end him due to my excellent reaction time but the accident was unavoidable. As I swerved to the right into the next line and hit the breaks my back end began to fish tail until I was perpendicular to the truck. At that time my front slams into his front and he spins me out over the median and into oncoming traffic … after dogging an 18-wheeler and finally coming to a stop on the other side facing the wrong way. It’s a blessing that nobody was hurt considering all this happened going about 75mph. I’m extremely thankful my girlfriend (passenger) was ok after the ordeal. The cop ticketed him for unsafe lane change and now I get to wait and see what happens with the car. I hope his insurance is ready to pay out big for the damages.

Sorry to hear about that, too bad A-holes like that can't be charged with attempted murder.
I had a Durango attempt that crap with me but when he tried a similar pass manuever I gunned it to about 90-95mph so he couldn't get back over or get that speed that quickly. He about flipped his truck over taking a turn at that speed.

I wouldn't generalize that "truck drivers are assholes". I have a pickup as well as my CL-S and don't drive like that. I'm usually more careful in the truck than the CL-S because of the damage the truck can inflict in an accident. I've been guilty of driving like an asshole more in my CL-S because it gives me more "confidence" to play around.

BTW, I know 316 well. DOT gets an award for the interchange with 316 and I85. Now we have 316 emptying into the left lanes of a major interstate and people trying to get to the right for Pleasant Hill exit, and at the same time we have people trying to move left to enter the HOV lanes. Brilliant design GA DOT.

I wasn't trying to stereotype those out there with trucks and yeah all that about 85 and 316 is so true … and they wonder why traffic is so bad right there … all this happened further down 316 right past the Duluth Exit on my way to school … almost made it LOL

If there is anyone who can give a ball park range on how much it may cost to fix this … assuming there’s no hidden damage. If more pictures are needed just let me know and I’ll bust out the camera. Thanks

that kinda sucks...i'm glad you are ok.

But, here's my question....if you see some guy wants to pass you he is in the left lane ...why don't you just get out of his way?

Good question.

Also, you can sue him if you want to, but he'll never pay a dime - his insurance company will and then everybody else will pay the insurance company by way of higher rates. If I thought he'd actually have to pay himself, I'd say go for it.

im glad to hear everyone was ok. but i was just curious, how was his attitude after the accident? did he show any signs of remorse? did he at least apologize for being a prick and slamming on the brakes? what was his version of what happened when explaining it to the cop? just wondering.

Loseit,
How do you get out of someone's way when he passes you on the left ? Basically, the dude was out of the ass hole's way until the f*cker cut back in front of him and slammed on the brake . It got to be very hard to guess to cut in another lane when someone cut in front of you.

What a dick... I hope he does feel like shit.

As for an estimate... I'm gonna say 3500. Front and back bumpers gotta get placed along with atleast one quarter panel. Plus all the painting. May even go to 4K.

Just be thankful you're OK.

Not that what he did was right, but you shouldn't hang in the left lane unless you are passing, regardless of how much over the speed limit you are doing. It raises peoples ire.
Also, there's no way that a pickup can brake that should cause you to lose control. A CL should have no problem panic braking behind a maximally decelerating pickup with room to spare.

I was the passanger and I was just reading up when Daniel told me he posted it... the answer to your question is simple... 316 is two lanes each direction. WE were in the left lane and he passed on the right (which I add is illegal). The reason we weren't getting out of his way is because we had no where to go.. there was a car in front of us, but we weren't planning on passing because we were making a left at the next light. He was out to piss us off by cutting us off because we had apparently made him mad earlier when traffic wasn't going anywhere so neither were we.

that makes a little more sense now.

I am too one of those fockers that ride up on someone's ass if they're going slow in the LEFT lane...especially on a freeway. It is incredibly dangerous to pass on the right and like you said is also illegal. But there are certain dumb asses that think they can rule the road by driving wherever they want.

Case in point...some minivan was in the far left lane one night. I come up behind him/her doing 5-8mph over the limit. There is NO one in the right lane. I flash my lights to get him to move over. Nothing...drive a good 10 more seconds flash my lights and leave them on high beam. The guy had the balls to hang out his hand and give me the finger. That really pisses me off

I glad you made it, but I hope you know why you spun.

Slamming on the brakes during an abrupt lane change is likely to cause a spin (or massive oversteer) in any car.

Glad you are safe

I mean i was in the left lane because i wanted to pass the cars on the right ... it's not like i was there just crusing along going only the speed limit

Heard about your crash on the radio. Glad you survived that ugly encounter.

I love the GA law regarding handguns in your car.

But I don't carry one. The car would be awful slow if you carried enough ammo to do any good in Atlanta traffic.

I came from Texas and believe me these Atlanta tailgaters and honkers would be punished severely there. I think the ratio is every 5th driver around here is a mental case.

Quite a contrast to the week I spent in Portland / Seattle this summer. Those guys are very mellow on the road.

No state allows loaded handguns in the car and anyone who fires on another driver is a fool.

I ended up getting a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer as my rental ... I must say I like the handling of the car even though the pickup really sucks … at 120hp and 130 ft-lbs Torque it was able to take my girlfriends camry without a problem … I’m now considering the evo VII as my next car. I’m taking my car to the collision place tomorrow. I’ll post the costs tomorrow

i used to work as an "estimator" for my uncle's bodyshop couple years back so i hope my ESTIMATE can be of some help.
from looking at the picture it is difficult to judge whether the frame of the vehicle is still aligned correctly. since your car spun and came to a stop without inflicting anymore damage, i'm gonna assume that it is still straight.
a few parts on the front end of the vehicle will have to be replaced. from what i can see, the front bumper cover, bumper absorber, bumper reinforcement, left headlight assembly, both signal lamp assembly, the hood, the intake, the front left fender, and a few more parts of which i dont know what to call 'em will need to be replaced and/or repainted. In addition to that, both front and rear will require a shit load of body work which is billed at an hourly rate (S.F.) of $65. on average a hood is listed at 2.5 hours of labor which comes out to roughly $160.00. so don't be suprised if you get an estimate for $6500.00; the insurance company will probably low ball the figure and bring their estimate closer to $5700.00 or so...however, good luck to you.

Hey Kensteele

"No state allows loaded handguns in the car and anyone who fires on another driver is a fool."

You are several times wrong, see: www.packing.org

Ok instead of showing me a website about how to get concealed weapons permits or how LEO and private investigators and judges and whoever have firearms in the car...instead prove me wrong.

I said "No state allows loaded handguns in the car". So since I didn't read packing.org in detail (because it's rubbish) please point out the specific state law that I can quote that permits me to have a loaded handgun in my car and when I get pulled over by the police, I can show HIM the law? There isn't one.

I see I'm several times wrong about the fool who fires on another driver, too. Well this one I can also prove. Why don't you instead show me where you're the hero for firing your weapon from one vehicle to another [moving] vehicle in an attempt to kill the other driver? Hasn't happened.

Someone earlier mentioned that Atlanta GA was a great place to live. And I agreed it might be nicer than Kansas...well sorta. But now....

What about aftermarket parts? Body shop said they dont deal with that.
