On my 6 speed when doing high (5000+) rpm shifts from 3rd to 4th, it jumps out of 3rd as soon as I clutch. I use a light touch when shifting and the first time it happened, the shifter smacked my hand pretty hard and sort of bounced off 4th, winding up in neutral till the surprise wore off enough for me to grab the shifter and put it in 4th. It only happens in 3rd and only at higher rpms like when getting on the freeway at WOT. It makes a wierd noise too. Not grinding but definitely the sound of things banging into eachother.

 

hmm yea i've had that happen. It's a combo of things.

1- clutch release

2- gear selection


For me it's been more timing than some thing physical with the car.

 

Really? How many miles on your 6sp. I've got 2000 miles and no signs of that yet.

 

yeah Ive noticed it too. It seems to be realted to how "precise" the clutch action was on that shift. I dont think its a problem but it does feel like something is clunking or bumping down there

I have over 16k and it didn't do it at first either. I think it started within the last 5k or so. The first time it happened it smacked my hand pretty good and scared the shit out of me. Wasn't expecting it at all.

 

This has happened to me (not on CL-S) in the past with my MR2. A big "clunck" and "grind" and it makes you jump!! It happened going from 1st to 2nd. I'm not mechanical at all but I think it has to do with the gear not fully seated before letting the clutch out.

 

But it stays in 3rd just fine all by itself until I hit the clutch. Then it jumps out of 3rd. I don't see how my clutch work has anything to do with it since its not happening when I let the clutch out.
